Last week, a 9 year old boy sneaked onto a delta plane in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport. The boy made it past security and reportedly spent some time in the airport. He then walked onto the plane without a ticket. The boy was on a plane to Las Vegas and the crew didn't find out until they had closed the door and taken off. One crew member was suspicious of the boy because he was under 14 and not part of the unaccompanied minor program. He was then turned over to child protective services.
This is a big deal because that child should not have gotten past the security, let alone the gate agent. If that boy can do it, then an adult could too. This just shows the public that some security officials are not careful enough and this harms our country. To solve this issue, I think that the security should go through more training and get tested regularly to make sure that they are keeping everything secure. With the government shutdown, our country could become an easier target which means that security must step up their game. This wasn't the first time it's happened, and I doubt it will be the last
I agree, this can be potentially very dangerous and something needs to be done to step up security. My sister once had an old metal fork for snacks in her backpack/suitcase that we travelled a lot with one vacation, but it was only detected in a very small airport, after it had been though other security checks in major airports in the US. Like with the boy, if something harmless can get through, something dangerous can, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, that happened to my sister too, except with a tube of toothpaste. We had traveled through many major airports and they didn't find it until we were in a small airport!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how that child could've gotten on the plane. Security really needs to step it up!
