Really Society? By Madelyn Winkelman

At the beginning of Jennifer Lawrence's carrier she was told that her weight was going to get her fired and that she needed to loose a couple of pounds; she was only a child actress when that comment was made. The person who did this also showed pictures of Jennifer, half naked, to stress the idea of a diet to help motivate her into "better shape". Well years and a Oscar later someone decided to bring that memory up again and it was no less painful than the first time around. "They thought because of the way my career had gone, it wouldn't hurt me. That somehow, after I won an Oscar, I am above it all." Her comment shows that no matter how much time passes what peoples actions and words have consequences and leave marks.

Society today needs to be drastically change, and people have some serious idealistic thoughts that need to be altered. I usually don't care about the goings-on in Hollywood but I thought that this story is a good example on what society and words can do. Girls and Boys today live in ideas that they have to look a certain way to be "perfect" or "sociably acceptable" when most of the time what they are trying to be is just wrong and bringing themselves harm. If your "over weight" and cant fit into a certain pair of jeans your fat, but if you are that "perfect' weight people judge you just as badly and make assumptions that your trying to fit into society's 'perfect person category'. There is no way to win or please these people! We should just try to give up! If you feel like you need to loose weight, then try too! Just don't do it for the wrong reasons, do it for you! The same goes to people who think their too skinny and need to gain weight, do it cause you think it will benefit you; not cause society and Hollywood thinks you should.

  1. Honestly, society is a twisted shallow community. Petty hypocitical, also when you thing about it. Sometimes they say to be youself and diffeent, then later they laugh at you and tell you what needs to change.

  3. I love Jennifer Lawrence. She is beautiful and curvy. It really suck that she had to go through that. That was cruel and for someone to bring it up again is like reopening up the wound. You never forget when someone has said or done things to hurt you. I hope she will fell better and forget about that person.
