On Sunday French voters cast their ballot in order to decide who will be the next president of France. This is a historic election due to the two rather unconventional candidates competing for the throne. The two candidates are Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron. In the first round of the election France chose to get rid of all presidential candidates that running as part of Frances traditional two party system. Now the race is between a Euro-skeptic, a party that was once associated with racism/xenophobia, and a pro-Europe, immigrant-friendly candidate who has never in his life held an elected office.
The outcome of this election will have a profound effect on the future of the European Union and globalization. It is interesting that after America has had one if its craziest elections of all time, France is now more or less in the same boat. I guess America isn't so crazy after all.
