Power East Coast via Wind-Alyssa Hamilton
Research shows that 144,000 , 270ft tall offshore turbines could power all electricity from Florida up to Maine. This project has been delayed though because of cost. Thankfully Mark Jacobson ( the "study co-author" and "Stanford professor of civil and environmental engineering" ) and his team realize that it would be bad to "put all of one's energy eggs in a single basket" and they would only make up to 50% of the electricity come from the wind turbines. Right now they're working on convincing people that it won't cause problems or get in the way of boats. "Jacobson's team says the new study will help locate the most economically feasible sites, particularly around New York and Boston" An example of the way they want to do it are the wind farms powering parts of Denmark. Personally I think it's a great idea to save money with wind power, but exactly how much money are we actually going to save when we still have to build and install 144,000 turbines?

This is amazing! If they have enough money and enough resources this could be a great way to salvage the country and the world against global warming.
ReplyDeleteWind power is great! This would be such a great way to power the country - not using resources like oil and gas. I hope the research continues to make is available.
ReplyDeleteWe have to give a little to get a lot. Spending money on research for this vital renewable energy source is very important for the future of America! The benefits of wind power far exceed the price we have to pay. We need to start doing things like this to prevent global warming and climate change from getting any worse.
