In Torreon, Mexico they have been having a major problem with the Zetas, a drug gang. It has gotten so bad that a city with nearly full population employment is now losing jobs by the tenfold. Also the city is still growing, at about 12,000 people a year. Since Calderon became president over 60,000 people have been killed. The mayor of Torreon, Olmos, started a campaign to root out the Zetas and because of that the police force went on strike. Under further investigation he found that all but one of his police officers were working undercover for the Zetas. Most of the huge trouble started 6 years ago when President Calderon led a huge crack down on the Zetas. It worked for a while but soon the Zetas bounced back and started retaliating. They led huge organized crime waves, left bags of severed heads, and killed hundreds of people. As of right now there is no police force in Torreon, and the Zetas control Torreon's largest prison. It has gotten so bad that to fix it the controlling forces in Torreon are thinking of making a deal with the Sinaloa Cartel, the Zeta's arch rivals, which is run by Mexico's most wanted man Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman. It's quite sad that it's so bad that to get rid of a murdering drug gang they have to bring in and give power to another murdering drug gang. Hopefully the situation in Mexico can be fixed without taking such drastic measures. Also it makes you wonder..... why the candidates are ignoring this huge fiasco! You would think that if one of them showed support towards helping Mexico out it would get them more votes and it would help us feel a little bit more secure. Considering Texas boarders Mexico.

The situation in Mexico is awful. It is so sad that people can not work and live a safe live because the drug gangs are so violent and controlling.

This is horrible. I agree, a candidate would probably get more votes if they supported it.
ReplyDeleteThis should be a main priority for Mexico to stop all the gang activity, but also the U.S. shouldn't ignore something like this that can potentially harm their citizens.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. should be able to help them, but with the illegal travel, it is harder to protect the both countries. The mexican government should take more or a stand against the gangs and protect the Mexican people. I think by doing this that Mexico could become a safer and more inviting place to be.
