Meggie Hunt: Jellyfish prompt nuclear reactor shutdown

Shutdowns as a result of brainless creatures are a growing trend apparently and Sweden is simply joining in. Due to an over abundance of jellyfish inside the cooling chambers of a nuclear power plant, the swedish power company had to shutdown the factory in order to remove the animals. Evidently this is not the first time this has been a problem seeing as how nuclear power plants in countries such as the United States, Japan, and Scotland have had similar problems.
The mere fact that this has been an apparent problem before is hilarious enough as it is and yet the added fact that out of all things, jellyfish would be the creatures to cause the dilemma simply heightens my appreciation of this article. I can understand fish getting in the way but something about jellyfish just strikes me as hilarious. However it is still a rather unfortunate incident and hopefully the creatures will be safely removed.

  2. I agree with you Meggie! Jellyfish can't even move very well--it's funny that they would be the source of such a big problem! Hopefully someone can come up with a way to keep jellyfish out of nuclear power plants in the future.

  3. Imagine some lower-level employee at this nuclear power plant having to report this to the boss... "Uhh, sorry sir, but we're going to have to shut down the plant."

    "WHAT?! Why?"

"There are jellyfish in the cooling chambers sir."

    "JELLYFISH?"

    "Yes sir, sorry sir."

  4. I think it's hilarious as well that the animals involved are jellyfish! Makes me think of Spongebob trying to fish them out with a net or something. I hope the jellyfish aren't affected by the nuclear wastes though
