Starting earlier today at 9 am, New York‘s Statue of Liberty reopened to the public after closing due to our government shutdown. Since October 1 it has been closed, along with 33 other sites controlled by the National Park service. Some of these other sites include Ellis Island and others in the area. Following the actions of New York, governors in other states have reopened their states sites, such as the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. The official announcement for the reopening was on Friday, where the governor of New York said that it would cost 61,600 a day until this Thursday. If the government is still shut down by then, then the continuing of the site will be renegotiated.
This shutdown is getting ridiculous. Actually, ridiculous is too nice of a word. It has already been about 2 weeks and these grown adults have still not agreed with each other or worked together. For the sake of our country, this shutdown needs to end very soon, before more economic problems arise. In my opinion, I respect that these cities are being independent with deciding to reopen sites, but I think that they should really just wait until this shutdown is over. Plus, it may be an incentive to the government to speed up their decision. source-http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/13/statue-liberty-reopens-after-new-york-state-agrees-to-take-over-daily-costs/
It's a good thing these sites are being independent. This shutdown is getting crazy, they should just make up.
ReplyDeleteIf sites are being reopened, then this really isn't a government shut down, it's more like "government save money by limiting opened buildings.
