Ban U.S from adopting Russian children - Sarah Oviedo

Russia has decided to pass a law, stating that the U.S. is banned from adopting a russian child. This has been a conflict, due to the number of abuse rate rising. U.S. families are not only affected but, the choices for adoptive parents is lowering. The President of Russia is comfortable with this law, naming it "The Magnitsky act" in honor of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. The rates of adoptive children from the U.S. is so high, that it questions the russians whether or not this law should be passed and be set and stone. I think, that this law shouldn't be set and stone because these children need homes to feel loved and taken care of. If the "safety" of the right home for child is an issue, then the adoption restrictions should stricter and more worried about how that child will last in a new home. Maybe observing that child's home for 5 years or so, keeping a closer eye could prevent abuse from occuring. I find this article pretty sad, and I do believe that every child set for an adoption deserves a home, and if the government is going to try and control that, then they need to think of a plan that will keep the rate of these children actually being adopted, at the same amount or more as to if they were being adopted by U.S. familes.

  1. Instead of banning all adoption they should do what you said. They should run background checks and monitor the family to prevent any abuse.

  2. This is awful. Now there will be many more orphans in Russia that don't have the opportunity to be adopted by parents and given homes. Why would the president of Russia think that a kid would have a less likely chance to be abused in Russia than in the US. I also think that there should be background checks to prevent abuse instead of banning adoptions from Russia.
