Half of Catalans Seek Seperation from Spain by Vittorio Chillemi

Catalonia is the region highlited in red.
Catalonia, one of Spain's most important and wealthy autonomous regions, has had a growing nationalistic movement, due to economic hardship and a unique culture seperate from the rest of Spain.
Sapin has entered its second recession in four years and Catalonia has been the region that has been hardest hit, with anger from the people who say that Catalonia pays $15 to $20 billion in taxes anually, but say the Spanish government only gives an unfairly small amount of money back.
Catalonia makes up 25% of Spain's economy, but the Catalan government states that it does not need Spain to be economically sucessful.
Many Catalan nationalists say that their culture and nation have been represseed by the Spanish government for centuries. Catalonia has its own language, Catalan, and culture distinct from the rest of Spain. Its capital city, Barcelona, is one of the biggest economic and cultural centers of the Mediterranean.
I believe that if Catalans cannot resolve their differences with Spain by any other means, and if they believe their economy will be strong enough, they should have the right to seperate themselves if they do not consider themselves Spaniards.
