White House Cancels Meeting with Philippines President-Tori Gonzalez Current Event #2

President Barack Obama was scheduled this week to have a meeting with Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, but plans changed after Duterte heard that President Barack Obama was planning to talk to him about the way the Philippines government and police officers handle drugs. Apparently police officers go door to door, or a process also known as "Knock and Plead" asking residences if they have taken drugs or is selling them, and if so to turn themselves in. Surprisingly, many do so  because of the fear for what will happen if they resist or get caught a second time. Punishments as serious as prison time or even death are the consequences that manage to get half a million people to turn themselves in in just seven weeks. After hearing from White House officials that President Obama would discuss this issue, Duterte claimed, "Who does he think he is? I am no American puppet. I am the president of a sovereign country and I am not answerable to anyone except the Filipino people. Son of a b****, I will swear at you."
The White House later cancelled the meeting, and instead went to visit South Korea. President Obama claims, "I always want to make sure if I'm having a meeting that it's productive and something is getting done." I personally believe that issues as serious as violent responses to drug offenders is a topic that is bound to come up in a meeting like this. Not only was it expected, but the way Duterte handled it was completely unprofessional and truly showed the world what low standards Duterte has for his public reputation.
