Belfast City Hall in Northern Ireland
"Irish nationalist councilors from the Sinn Fein and SDLP parties voted
to take down the flag which has flown above the city hall every day
since the building was opened in 1906." this vote has caused much disarray among the people as it means the british flag will only be flown 17 days a year. Many people protested this coming to the city hall holding union jacks above their heads. Dozens of police officers were injured in the riot. The people have their own "valid" reasons for storming the city hall though, many people claim that the vote to remove the flag as "divisive, destructive and disrespectful
of anything remotely Protestant, anything remotely British."
How this will turn out I can't tell but I do agree with the point that taking down the flag is against pride of your country, but again it is Ireland............

I hope everything is settled peacefully...
ReplyDeleteI would want to keep the flag up everyday, but that might be only because it has been up for so long that I wouldn't see the need for a change. I think that it is okay for people to express their opinions on the subject, but there is no need for violence. Hurting people in the process of protesting won't get you anywhere. I hope the cops are okay.
