Elecrtric Workout! by Madeline Ibarra

In the town northeast of England, inside of the Hull city park is a new invention. This new idea creates usable energy when its workout materials are used. This work out station is completely public and can create about 1 kilowatt hour per day. This might not seem like much, but ever since installment, it has produced over 40,000 watt hours for its community. With more outdoor gyms planning to be installed, the power that it produces could eventually be added to the cities power grid and reduce the cost of electricity. "The company has already installed more than 350 gyms in public places around the UK -- paid for by local councils and free of charge to use for local residents -- but this is their first to convert human energy into electricity." The goal of the electric gym it to get people not only to work out more, but to reduce the risk of disease and obesity. The prototype gym cost around $100,000 to install and create. There are developing plans to make a cheaper $32,000 model that will charge cell phones and a large $130,000 model where more energy could be produces and sent into the energy grid.

This is a wonderful invention. To get people to be more active and help the green earth cause is a brilliant idea. I hope that sometime in the future that there will be enough stations to make a major difference in the usage of electricity in the UK. Maybe even sometime we could see these public gyms come into the USA and make a difference for our lack of activity and over-usage of electricity.

A new gym developed in the UK is not only good for your health but also for the environment, generating electricity when people use the equipment on site.
