Smart Roads = Efficiency by Bob Cummins

Daan Roosegaarde, a Dutch designer, is in the process of creating Smart Highways.  These roads could charge electric cars while they drive over them, reduce energy with street lights equipped with sensors, and, along with other things, warn drivers of ice patches with digital snowflakes painted on the road.   In Brabant, a province in the Netherlands, they will finish a 150-meter stretch of Smart Highway later this year.
This idea isn't brand new.  In 1991, a Virginia Tech professor had the idea of embedding sensors in the road to warn drivers about its conditions.
Roosegaarde is thinking about applying this technology to illuminate airport landing strips, and bicycle lanes.

This is cool and informative, but it could be distracting.  Jennifer Booton, the writer of the article didn't express her opinion.  This is a revolutionary start of a new technology and industry that could help many people.  I've never heard of this technology before, but I am astounded by what I've read in this article.  This article is meant to inform people about this technology that could change how we think of roads in general.
