Summary: Jonathan Trappe, a 39 year old man working as an IT project manager from Raleigh, California, attempted to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. He had to land the 370 helium balloons carrying him about 12 hours into his expedition in Newfoundland, Canada. He is in stable condition, although he told Barcroft Media, a company he partnered with, that he feared the landing would kill him, as he was landing in complete darkness. A Canadian team has been searching the area where he crash landed, and if they do not find him, he plans to trek on foot and find locals in the area for help. Jonathan has made trips across water masses by air before, using a balloon cluster in 2010 to cross the English channel, so even though this trip was cut short, it remains a possibility that he will try again, maybe with a different water mass this time.
Analysis: I think this is really cool, to be blunt! I think it's amazing the things people can do today- and traveling by balloon over such a big mass of water with (sort of) unpredictable weather conditions, wind, etc., is really brave, I don't know if I could do it! I hope to hear more about this guy's air travels in the future if he plans to make any after this.
