Accident during festival, 13 children involved by Josie Blossfeld

Summary: An accident occurred this morning at a festival in Connecticut when a swing ride lost power. 13 children were injured,  and the cause of the loss of power is still a mystery. It took place during the Norwalk Seaport Association's annual Oyster Festival. The Association assured the general public and those concerned that the well-being of the children and their families was their top priority. Shortly after the incident the rides were shut down, and fire investigators and the ride company inspected the ride among others. The rides reopened this evening after the check up and the rides seem to be safe now. The company that owns the swing ride, Stewart Amusement, could not be reached for further comment but assured CNN news that it was cooperating with investigators and the ride had been deemed safe by state officials.

Analysis: I approve of the way the Norwalk Seaport Association dealt with the situation and I'm glad that the children are alright. However, I don't think they should have reopened the rides so soon, although I can understand why they did for money-making reasons. I'm hoping they look further into the sudden loss of power to make sure nothing is wrong and that the rides are completely safe now, at least find out how it happened. This article interested me because I love amusement park rides, but I always have this fear going on them that they are going to shut down and something like this will happen! I'd like to see more safety precautions used and more checks done on amusement park rides today.

  2. This is something that really could've been prevented, rides should be inspected regularly for the safety of people especially small children.
