Wall of trees protects Wildlife by Josie Blossfeld

Summary: In Nairobi, Kenya's National Park, a program has been launched by private investigators, the M-Pesa Foundation, and a charitable trust called the Nairobi Greenline Project. The program will involve the planting of 300,000 trees, a 50-meter wide forest barricade around the park with a 32-kilometer electric fence. Here's an excerpt from the article I like: Dorothee Von Brentano, the Senior Human Settlements Officer at U.N. Habitat Kenya, says: "The fence is a symbol and a sign, to draw attention to an issue that needs to be much more properly addressed." This issue is what she calls an "ill hunger for land," the driving force behind the intrusion of urban development onto the park.

Analysis: I agree with what the park's officials have decided to do! I think for now it is best to have the tree barricade and fence, to protect the wildlife from the people until they learn to protect it themselves from poachers, etc. They can still grow as a city, just not into the wilderness they've left alone for the wild animals. Deforestation is still happening at too rapid a pace, and if we lose all our forests and natural habitats, there will be more endangered species that depended on those areas.
