Dallas Zoo brings in pet puppy to calm down cheetahs by Kegan Cole

The Dallas Zoo acquired two new cheetah pups named Windspear and Kamau to create awareness about endangered African animals. Since the cubs are growing up away from wilderness, the zoo has decided to get a Labrador puppy to befriend them and help them "shape up". they believe that the good social skills the dog has will have a calming influence on the cubs. The puppy is about the same age as the cubs and will be a friend for them to grow up with. Other cubs born into captivity have had Labrador friends and it has shown to make improvements.

I think it is a good idea for the zoo to create awareness about the endangered African species and i think the adorable cubs are a good way to do it. I can imagine that not growing up in their natural habitat would be difficult for them and the zoos efforts to help are necessary. I can also see how a dog could show them the way to behave around humans and act as a comforting friend to the cubs.

  1. I really think that the puppies really helped these cheetahs get into shape. Dogs rule!

  2. That's so cool how two different species can grow up and bond together that way!

  5. This is adorable! I would have never thought of putting a dog with cubs to calm them and befriend them. I'm gonna have to go to the zoo and see this for myself!
