Great strides have been made in Chilean history. The 12th annual celebration of "Diverse Chile:Cultural Demonstration for Diversity and Against Discrimination" was held this past May, While the isn't any new news it is still a gargantuan landmark for the people of Chile.
The incredible group that put this whole shebang together goes be the name of MOVILH or Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation. 2012's "Diverse Chile" focused on the 10-years-debating-and-just-now-approved Anit-Discrimination Law. Which, is a huge achievement all in itself, but for people to come and say "YES! THANK GOD! FINALLY!!!!" is another victory all together.
Also at this year's "Diverse Chile" party-goers payed tribute to Daniel Zamudio, a fresh young man whose life was ended by a fight due to his sexual orientation. Zamudio's father, Ivan Zamudio, was there to give thanks to his many supporters. They were so overjoyed that they gave Papa Zamudio a nice standing ovation.
Other programs and organizations went to the podium to present their thoughts on controversial topics. These include trying to get signatures to remove transexuality as a mental disease and approve abortion. But alas, as all these wonderful things are happening, abortion is still illegal as stands.
The President of MOVILH has this to say, "We are here to celebrate the new Anti-Discrimination Law and the groundbreaking 2012 Census, which surveys same-sex households. Chile is changing, Chile is no longer the same and now we’re fighting for complete social and legal equality.”

This is an amazing step for Chile. Another great example for the rest of the world by a South American country! These people are really on the ball...
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to hear of other cultures expressing acceptance of diversity and homosexuality. By promoting social and legal equality, like Sylvie said, they are a positive example for South America and other countries to follow.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear that Chile is making a difference.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you all. I'm glad to see young people being involved in the world today. Hopefully other countries will follow in Chile's footsteps. I've always found it better to embrace and be happy instead of hiding and being scared. Maybe one day all of us will be accepting, but until then, kudos to Chile!!!
