Deadly Peruvian Protests- Molly Paley
On Thursday, protests in Lima, Peru turned deadly when two civilians were killed by Peruvian Police. Protesting disagree with a council directive to move a local market to a much smaller market with high rates. The current market is said to buy stolen items and contraband. 70 people total between Thursday and Saturday are said to have been injured. The police reacted by using tear gas, pistols, and batons. The mayor of Lima says, "We are regaining order and security in an area that has only been one of disorder, chaos, insecurity and filth." I don't really understand why people are unwilling to move to the more modern market, but regardless it is never ok for protests to turn violent.
