Mexico crime rates increase - Faith Barnes

In Morelia, Mexico there has been a rise in crime, making life bad for the citizens. "You can't even go out at night here" said a lady named Yolanda Villa. Her son finished her sentence by saying "They beat you, Kidnap you, Rob you." The police have been so consumed with pursuing drug cartels that they have not been paying any attention  to other crimes there. Assaults and robberies have risen 35 percent between 2006 and 2011 in that jurisdiction. Robberies are even rising this year. Soldiers and federal officers still clash almost daily with heavily armed cartel gunman. Homicides rose 68 percent. The state officers claim that street crime are decreasing. Even though police say assault and robbery are not happening the people still don't feel safe. Nationwide robberies are still don't feel safe. Nationwide robberies are still rising with bank robberies almost quadrupling. Although for decades drug cartels have been the major problem, a state police, inspector Osvaldo said he believes that most street crime has no connection to the drug cartels. As the population grows, so does crime.

  1. Wow! They should have a department for dealing with the drug cartels and let their normal cops take care of buisness....

  2. They really need to find a way to control this! Maybe they should try making different departments so the police don't have to try to stretch to fix everything!
