US and Peru Defense Agreement by: Rachel Devine

The United States and Peru recently decided that they want to renegotiate a 60-year-old defense cooperation agreement between the two countries. They want to update their agreement because the two countries think it would help them work more closely on issues such as terrorism and drug trafficking. Updating the accord would improve the US and Peru’s ability to conduct joint activities, do training, and other exchanges. The decision is also part of the new US defense strategy and is hoping to further their relationship with Peru.
I think the decision to update the defense cooperation agreement is a good idea. I want the United States to have the best possible relationship with foreign countries and I think the update will be good for our country’s defense system. I’m glad we are on good terms with Peru and I think it is smart to focus on protecting ourselves from terrorism and drug trafficking.
