On the side of a road in Mexico City a little girl is begging for money. This is a very common thing to have in Mexico. All except for the fact that the little girl is blonde.
So when a passerby decided to take a picture of the girl and post it on Facebook saying "Spread this picture around!" It struck outrage in Mexico for prejudice against the girl and every other beggar girl on the streets.
The man that took the picture also raised suspicion that the girl might have been kidnapped because her parents are dark colored skin and the little girl was "white".
This caught the attention of police and investigators to start background checks on the family. The little girl was put in an orphanage and detained from her 23 year old mother for 2 days. The grandmother had the child birth certificate and gave it to the police to show them that girl was indeed not kidnapped, but a DNA check is being processed and results should be out soon.
This article showed to me how racist people actually are. Also how unfair it can be for those girls who are trafficked or kidnapped, that people won't look deep enough to see if you are one of those things if your skin is darker.

I hope that this girl finds out soon, whether she was kidnapped or not. I hope that these are her real parents. This little girl shouldn't have to suffer. She should be with her real parents that love her. I also can't believe how racist, some people are. There are better things to worry about than whether someone is dark or not. I just hope that these DNA results come soon.
ReplyDeletePersonally there are MILLIONS of people in the US that don't look like their parents, whether because of skin color, hair color, or face shape. Just because she's blonde and pale doesn't mean she was kidnapped!! Maybe she was adopted or had a different dad, one who was pale and blonde!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so intresting to hear what other people think about race. It is so sad to think that even though she did not look like either one of her parents that someone would think she was kidnapped.
