Two-time rape victim
fights for justice
Malya
Villard-Appolon is one of 2012 top 10 heroes. This award is such an honor to be
given, and Malya Villard-Appolon was awarded it for her amazing work in Haiti. She
has created a foundation named KOFAVIV that supports women of all ages who have been
raped. The reason Villard-Appolon created this foundation is because she is a two-time
rape victim. She was raped in 1992 and
in 2003; she also survived attempted rape in 2010. Villard-Appolon was awarded
50,000 dollars for being chosen as 2012 top 10 heroes. She plans to use the
money to help children in Haiti get an education, and she will also use some of
it to support her foundation. Villard-Appolon helps rape survivors of all ages.
The youngest survivor was 17 months. I think this article is inspirational. It really
made me more aware, and got me thinking about where else in the world stuff
like this is happening. It makes me realize how selfish we are, and how much we
take for granted in America. We complain if our iPhones are too slow, or if we
have too much homework, but think about all the women in Haiti being raped
every day, and all they can do is hope it won’t happen again. That’s a life I wouldn’t
wish on anyone. This article was written very well, and I think it brought a
lot of terrible situations into perspective for some people, because I know it
did for me.

Reading an article like this does make me grateful for where I live and all the advantages we have. Malya Vilard-Appolon is a great inspiration to all of us. She sounds like such a strong person and has had to overcome so much.

Its really cool that someone can take a bad situation they were in and turn it around to make something positive! She will probably affect so many lives.
