Missing Girl Posts on Twitter By Elaine Hennig

Police are searching for a New Jersey 16-year-old who was reported missing. The girl, Kara Alongi, posted on Twitter Sunday night before she went missing. Her tweet about a possible intruder gained a lot of attention. "There is someone in my hour ecall 911," she posted, which is assumed to have meant "There is someone in my house call 911." This post caused a lot of activity on Twitter, creating the hashtag #helpfindkara. Police say there is no indication of a break in or kidnapping, and no one at the house called the police. Adding to suspicion, police also say that a taxi was called for Kara's address around the time the post was made. The taxi driver said he picked up someone at the house, who he identified as Kara, and took her to the train station. She is still missing.

This article gives the audience a suspicious feeling. There is a lot of information that infers that the tweet was a fake, and/or that Kara left her house voluntarily. Though it could be legitimate, it brings up questions of why the girl would post on social media to "call 911" and not call herself. The real concern though, is that the girl is actually missing, kidnapped or not.

  1. This is just sad. That girl must have a terrible life if she had ran away from home.

  2. This is awful news... It seems to me that she was trying to make it seem like somebody took her instead of just running away and that is a very sad situation for both her and the family :(
