According to satellite readings and several scientific studies, the ice sheets in Greenland and parts of Antarctica are melting faster. Of course, this is being caused by global warming. The melting ice has added around 11 millimeters to global average sea levels between 1992 and 2011, with an increease of 20% during this time period. Although this number may seem small, scientists say that "Small changes in sea levels in certain places mean very big changes in the kind of protection of infrastructure that you need to have in place." Studies find that Greenland is losing ice 5 times faster than in the 1990s.
