A four year old girl named Hong Xiaorou was struck by a bulldozer in Zhangpu county in rural China at about 11am local time on Wednesday, August 28. The grandmother of the girl, Chen Saijiao, had tried to stop the bulldozer that she saw pushing mud onto one of her fields. The driver, who spoke a different dialect than the grandmother, could not understand what she was saying and backed over the girl who was playing behind the vehicle. The girl died in the hospital and the driver was arrested. This event triggered an outrage on Chinese social media and as @yongbao_ai on the popular micro-blogging service Sina Weibo says, "There are so many people killed or disabled because of the land grabs in China, and (the officials) usually resolve these things with little compensation."
I can very much so understand why this would be a major outrage in the media in China, seeing that events like this happen often. I feel extremely sad for the family and am angry that the officials aren't taking a more aggressive perspective on the situation. I hope that the family is doing okay and that the rural area of China can resolve this issue.
China is actually in the bottom 10 for the worst place to drive in. So does anyone else think china needs to do something about there traffic system.
ReplyDeleteI agree, They need to do something about their traffic/driving system, because I've heared many accidents like this talk about deaths and injuries in car accidents in China.

ReplyDeleteI think that China's driving system isn't the best. I'm not quite sure, but I don't think they have anything like the Drivers Ed. we have here. Do they even need drivers licenses?
ReplyDeleteWhy was the little girl playing near someone who was bulldozing? I agree with Nash, I think that China needs to improve there traffic system.
ReplyDeleteThe girl was probably too young or she wasn't taught about staying off the street. She might've been picking up a toy which she dropped, but there are many possibilities.

ReplyDeleteI think that it is ridiculous that nobody was watching a four year old girl... I agree with everyone saying that China needs a better traffic system.
ReplyDeleteI think China just needs help in general. They have poverty (and who doesn't) and Pollution (and who doesn't) and generally very bad things going on. (you get the point) Of course in China these problems run a bit more rapid than in other countries. Also, ouch. That story hit me hard.
