Gun Growth in Airports by Zoey Crummey

This year there has been a significant increase in the amount of guns found in airports, especially at the Salt Lake City International Airport. Since May they have found four loaded guns attempted to be brought on the plane. The last discovery was earlier this week, when a man had a loaded gun in his carry on bag on his way to Vegas. The most recent discovery "brings the year-to-date total to 30," which is much more than previous years. The trend in Salt Lake City is happening all over the country. In the past eight years guns found by screeners have gone from "660 in 2005 to 1,556 in 2012." This year is catching up quickly, with 1,150 guns already discovered, a higher number than this point last year. The punishment of the passengers depends on where they are and the gun laws in that particular area.

In my opinion, the use of guns is getting out of hand. Our country needs to realize that by allowing the use of handguns, we are putting other people's lives in jeopardy. Just think about what would have happened if those guns hadn't been found, do we really need anymore tragedies in our country? Either the restrictions on guns are much more strict, or they should be banned completely.

  1. If you look at other countries, like the UK, they have gun control laws and people ate safer for it. I think ehat's happening us that we're in a vicious cycle: people have guns, so more people get guns to protect themselves, then more people want to keep their guns to protect themselves, and more people get guns... Etc. I agree with you in thinking that some changes need to be made to our gun laws.
