Turkish court orders YouTube access to be restored by Kegan Cole

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27623640

A block on twitter and Youtube has been lifted that was imposed in March. The Prime minister was a critic of the sites and it is sad that is why the ban was imposed in the first place. They were blocked after recordings of official meetings were leaked. The constitutional court ruled the ban as violating laws of freedom.

I think it is understandable why they wanted to have a ban and why they were angry, but i think they need to understand that social media is a big part of society now and if they don't want things leaked, they need to take it on themselves.

Boaters missing in Lake Michigan, Coast Guard says by Kegan Cole

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/01/us/lake-michigan-coast-guard-search/index.html?hpt=us_c2

Several separate boating incidents this weekend have resorted in many missing people. Some were found with hypothermia because of the colder water. many people were said to have been taking a swim in the water when the boat started to drift and they could not get back to it and were not wearing life jackets.

Honestly, people need to be more careful. if they had been paying  more attention to the boat, and had been wearing life jackets, they probably could have avoided this.

Police: Wisconsin girl, 12, stabbed 19 times; friends arrested by Kegan Cole

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/02/justice/wisconsin-girl-stabbed/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Two teenage girls stabbed another girl they went to the same middle school as in a park. They had been reading an online horror site and thought that to prove their dedication to the owner of the sight, they needed to kill. They had been planning this murder for moths and had many different plans. They had a sleepover with the girl two nights prior to the murder attempts and hoped to carry it out then, but decided to do it in the wooded area of the park instead. The girl managed to drag herself out into the street where she was found by a cyclist. The two girls are being tried as adults.

This is absolutely horrible. These girls are only in middle school and already want to kill. I cannot blame the sight they were on because they were the ones who tried to kill someone and no one can be blames but them. I'm glad they are being tired as adults.

Pakistan stoning victim's husband condemns police by Kegan Cole

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-27614359

A Woman three month pregnant was stoned to death by her own family in Pakistan. It happened because the woman married a man "against the families wishes." The husband of the woman said that as she was being stoned, the police just watched. Marrying someone who your family does not approve of is often seen as unacceptable there. Even though people were yelling for help, the police did not intervene.

Story's like this not only make me sad, but angry as well. I wish the police there had the decency to stop murder happening right in front of them, even if the woman did something they think is terrible.

Kidnapper boko haram found- sk hatcher

Islamist militant group Boko Haram admits to the kidnapping of the 280 girls from the Nigerian school last month. In a video, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau says, "I abducted your girls." The mass kidnapping and poor government rescue attempts are sparking international anger.

Finally the guy is caught, but the idea that these girls will still probably never be found hurts me even more than their initial kidnapping. They are probably already sold off, and the country has no initiative to try to find them.

Sex slave kidnapping- sk hatcher

Islamist militant group Boko Haram kidnapped about 280 girls from a school in nigeria with plans to make the girls Alex slaves. The mass kidnapping-and the government's inept attempts to rescue them-spark international issues and anger. The fundamentalist Islamist disagree with public education. The army and President Goodluck Jonathan are widely criticized for their inability to fix this issue.

This made me weep. All these girls wanted was an education and now they are to be sold into slavery. How is it when possible to kidnap that many people unnoticed?

Shooting- sk hatcher

On April second, An Iraq war veteran kills three people before shooting himself.  This occurred at fort hood in Texas. At least 16 people are injured. The suspect is Army Specialist Ivan Lopez, who has PTSD. This is the second fatal shooting at Fort Hood within the last five years.

Stuff like this makes me naucious. A man had PTSD and decides to kill other innocent people. He wasn't even a treasonist.

Sk hatcher- prisoner trade

After several years of negotiations, the U.S. and The Taliban have completed a prisoner swap. The Taliban surrendered Bergdahl, who had been held in captivity  for five years, and the U.S. release five top members who are Taliban leaders. The prisoners were taken to Qatar officials and must remain in that country for about a year.

I don't believe that this was a good idea. Also, it wasn't a fair trade, and on top of if all, our guy won't be returned for a year.

Three killed, five wounded in Myrtle Beach shootings by Kegan Cole

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/25/us/myrtle-beach-shootings/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

After six separate shooting that killed three people and wounded five, there is still no one arrested. people are very scared and shaken. The victims ran away before collapsing. The police do not believe the shootings are connected.

I wish things like this would stop, and i wish that the police would get down to business once the first couple shootings started.

U.S. to send 2 more missile defense ships to Japan to protect from North Korea by kegan cole

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/04/06/world/asia/us-japan-ships/index.html?hpt=ias_c2

The US is sending missiles to japan for defense and protection against north Korean missile threats. They are going to have these missiles to Japan by 2017.

I am glad we are working with japan and we have another alliance, but i wish we didn't have to do this in the first place and the threats would stop.

Missing Boaters by Anna Pickett

At Lake Michigan, many boaters were reported missing. In Chicago, rescuers pulled out a boater who said there were still more people in the water. Rescuers also pulled up 5 people from the lake in Indiana. These people jumped into the water to cool off, but weren't wearing life jackets.
I hope these people are found soon. Sadly, they probably won't be found in time. I hope less people will go missing in this lake and others, as well.

More Help for Thalassemia Paients in Egypt - by Frances Garnett

In Egypt, back in May, the Egyptian National Health Insurance Organization (NHIO) and the Egyptian Thalassemia Association (ETA) held a press conference to announce their plans of raising the age limit of coverage for Thalassemia sufferers from 10 to 18. Thalassemia is a genetic disorder that significantly reduces haemoglobin and leads to severe anaemia excessive iron content in the blood (due to excessive blood transfusions). If both parents carry the gene, then their child will be born with it. From as early as 6 months they would have blood transfusions every 3-4 weeks, though those blood cells will eventually break down and leave iron binding to vital organs, which can be fatal. The treatments this insurance covers are diagnosis, blood transfusions, and providing deferasirox, a drug that combats iron excesses on organs. NHIO made this decision because insurance is often the only way patients can continue their treatment in the face of very expensive cost, though there's still a huge need for donations to cover everyone. Egypt especially has a lot of Thalassemia sufferers (over 7.65 million, almost 9% of the population, and 1,000 kids born with it each year).

I think that this is a great thing, and even though it will raise the amount of money spent on these patients, it will also help them a lot. I wish other countries, the US, for example, would do these sorts of things more, to use a bit more funding to help out its people. Of course, additional sponsors are needed, but I'm still glad that they are taking a risk to help people in need.

12-year-old attempted murder by: Shadden Hashem

Two 12-year-old girls, by the names of Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, are accused of attemping to kill a girl that they attended school with. It was said that they stabbed the victim 19 times and left her in the park that they commited the crime in. The suspects have been arrested and are being held on preliminary charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide with a bail at the amount of $500,000.
This is absolutely outragous. I can't believe two twelve-year-old girls would think of killing another girl that they considered their friend! I feel terrible for the victim and her family.

Why not call it Mega Earth? by Becca Hodge.

A new planet was discovered. Its mass is a total of more than 7 Earths. It has a rocky surface with seems to interest scientist because it was thought to believe that if a planet is that big, it should draw in more hydrogen causing it to have a surface closer to Neptune or Jupiter. It is also believed to might hold life, given it so quickly formed rock on the surface.

TV Star Ann B. Davis Dies by Bob Cummins

Ann B. Davis, most famous for her role as Alice, the family maid on "The Brady Bunch" died on Sunday in San Antonio, Texas at University hospital, according to Sara Horne, a medical examiner's investigator in Bexar County.  They don't know the exact cause of her death, which will probably be revealed in an autopsy they're planning.  She was living with Bill Frey, who is a retired bishop, and his wife.  After living there since 1976, she fell on Saturday and didn't recover.  She's also been in roles other than "The Brady Bunch", of course.  She was in "The Bob Cummings Show" playing Bob's secretary, Schultzy, she played a gym teacher on "The John Forsythe Show",  and she was in stage shows as well. Other members of the "Brady" cast have spoken of their sadness, with Florence Henderson saying, " I'm shocked and saddened!  I've lost a wonderful friend and colleague."

It's sad to see her go, but she sure did have a good 88 years.  She will probably only be remembered for her signature role, though.  After "The Brady Bunch", she sort of left the spotlight.

Monks Mar Myanmar Marriage - Max Gaddis

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/05/29/world/asia/myanmar-interfaith-marriage-laws/index.html?hpt=ias_mid

Monks in Myanmar proposed a law that would ban interfaith marriages from happening. They say they want to do this to "protect race and religion and encourage peace", but others say it is a direct attack to get muslims out of the country, as they account for 5% of the country's population. Thin Thin Aung, a member of the Women's League of Burma, says that in addition to attacking Muslims, the law also attacks women's rights because it infringes on their freedom to marry whomever they chose. The law requires suitors to be the same religion as their fiancé and obtain written consent (or convert then do so), bans polygamy, and jails anyone who marries into a buddhist family who is not buddhist for 10 years. All in the name of peace.
The president's spokesperson says the bill is just a draft and isn't being enforced, just suggested and it is set to have it's own day in court later on this month.

I think this is stupid. If they want to really encourage peace, they should encourage interracial/ interfaith marriages.

Youtube Block in Turkey- Amanda Maceda

Earlier this year, Turkey banned both Twitter and YouTube because official reports and meetings were leaked, causing political controversy. One was about a possible intervention in Syria and the other about corruption. The ban on Twitter was lifted last month, but YouTube is still under. Some people say this is for "precautionary administrative measures", while others are enraged. There is hope that the ban will be lifted, though. Turkey's court has claimed this block violates the citizen's freedom of expression. Source:http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27623640
