Feed That Kills - Max Gaddis

http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/27/opinion/fda-antibiotics-guidelines-opinion/index.html?iid=article_sidebar

Industrial producers of animals that go into the food we eat in America give them small doses of antibiotics in their food so that they won't spread diseases in the small, compact, spaces that they are squeezed into, and so that they will grow big and offer more meat. We then, in turn, eat those same antibiotics, not knowing that bacteria is learning from this antibiotic code and mutating itself so it is not affected by those antibiotics. Then small things like a cut or scrape become infected by warrior bacteria and it gets harder to even control a small scrape without getting sick. The FDA wants to limit the use of antibiotics on the animals because of antibiotic resistance. The antibiotics go from the feed that is given to animals, to the animals, to meat, poultry and vegetable farms to be used there I'm guessing as soil, then the meat goes to us whether through vegetables or meat. Actually, 80% of our antibiotics in the U.S. go to feed, the other 20% come directly to us for cures.

I want to know why the FDA didn't do something about this earlier, and why 80% of our antibiotics go to feed so that farmers can cram animals in unhealthy conditions and get away with it.

Human Barbie - Max Gaddis

http://shine.yahoo.com/shine-beauty/human-barbie-39-most-bizarre-claims-2013-150400051.html

A 24- year old Ukrainian woman named Valeria Lukyanova has recreated herself in the image of barbie. She says that besides breast implants, contacts, and make-up, she has no procedures done to create her look. Olga "Dominica" Oleynik and Anastasiya Shpagina are also Ukrainian barbie look-alikes (although Anastasia is claimed to be more "anime-like") and these girls' names are linked because of it. Here are some photos of them:

Valeria and Olga

 Anastasiya and Valeria

 All three of them

Valeria says: she can contact people from other planets and civilizations using out-of-body experiences, she has a husband but won't tell if he's human or not, she wants to be able to reach a level where she can survive alone by air and light, and she thinks her appearance is a very spiritual thing.
Anastasiya is considering getting eye surgery to make her eyes bigger and more doll-like so she doesn't have to spend so much time of makeup. Every day, she makes herself look like one of her favorite anime/manga characters

Reaction to Valeria (and Olga): I think that this is ridiculous and isn't worth it, and most importantly, WHERE ARE HER PARENTS?! Who would let their child do such things as this?! I think she is really cray for doing this, she has problems. No one can survive on light and air except for plants, but that is only because they go through photosynthesis. This is really scary to me too, because it's not natural to look like Barbie. I, myself, hated barbie as a child, I preferred the sass of Bratz, to the cheer of Barbie.

Reaction to Anastasiya: This is way too far for anyone to take their love for anime. Having a closet and bookshelf full of manga, magazines, character cutouts, a cosplay collection, and having your HOUSE set up like your favorite character's house is less drastic than rearranging your body like the character too.

Overall reaction: It's not worth it and you'll just decompose like the rest of us when you're dead, which won't be long if Valeria keeps her diet and exercise up like she's doing. Is it just me, or is it a coincidence that they are all Ukranian? What is the Ukraine doing with their teenagers?

Target hacker- SK hatcher

Target hacked! Everyone who used a card at target since thanksgiving is at risk if identity theft. An unfortunately amazing hacker is being "targeted". Many people are still freaking out about the situation.

My family has used cards at target multiple times since thanksgiving and it's scary to think that he could just randomly access all of our information.

London theater-sk hatcher

London theater collapses during a show killing nobody but hurting many. People are in hospitals with concussion and one man in critical condition.

This is really sad. They paid good money to see an amazing show and they were all hurt. Also the financial issues that have been thrust upon the theatre...

Sick Dolphins by Zoey Crummey

A study was just realeased about some of the long term of effects of the devastating oil spill that occurred in 2010. It talked about how dolphins that swam in the waters that were most affected by the oil spill have seen a huge increase in the amount of lung diseases, while dolphins in other areas not affected by the oil have not seen any increase. "For the dolphin study, scientists caught, examined and released about 30 bottlenose dolphins in Barataria Bay, La., in 2011. Moderate to severe lung diseases associated with oil contamination were prevalent among many of the dolphins, and almost half had “a guarded or worse prognosis, and 17% were considered poor or grave, indicating they weren’t expected to live,”

I think that this is so awful. The dolphins never did anything to us, yet they are suffering and dying due to human actions. Now that this information is out hopefully people will take more steps towards saving the environment and fixing past mistakes that we have made. This is just another example of how humans are destroying their only home, earth. Obviously we need to change.

Sk hatcher- news becoming entertainment

Many people are feeling that the news is becoming an area for untertainment and celebrities. It is by definition supposed to be a way to connect with world, international, and local affairs along with weather. People feel that it meditates on frivolous topics like Miley Cyrus and iPhones.

I believe this to be true. Need stations even just the normal local stations are becoming more of an entertainment than source.

Sk hatcher- leader killed in pakastan

The U.S. Successfully assassinated Hakimullah Mehsud, the leader of the Taliban in Pakistan. The government is angry that this happened, as they feel that boundaries have been overstepped. Many people are really happy about this action in regards to the Taliban. Many think they got what they deserved after the many bombings of Pakistani people. The military stated that they have just gotten away with killing too many innocent people And maybe this will contribute to stopping it. The biggest concern is that it ruined any changes to talk peace with the Taliban.

I believe that killing a man who kills is like
Fighting fire with fire. In persist of
Scaring members of the Taliban they risked rising fury. Also peace at this pony was made impossible. I'm glad he's dead, but stupid move.

10 million lbs of wings by Zoey Crummey

Mcdonalds has 10 millions pounds of wings to sell. Apparently McDonalds could not sell all of the wings they produced for one of their promotions, they still have 20% left in freezers. According to the article most of McDonald's customers are not financially stable, and they would rather spend their money on an old favorite instead of "McNuggets with bones". Right now McDonalds is thinking of a plan to get rid of them.

In my opinion the wings sound kind of awful. McNuggets with bones? Uh, gross. I'm sure some people like them but they are really not my thing. I think mcdonalds tries to introduce too many new things, they should just stick to the classics. It is sad that are losing so much money on these wings. I'm sure a bunch of people for fired over this.

Pope on Public Breastfeeding by Zoey Crummey

The other day the pope was passing by a woman with a crying baby. The pope stopped and suggested that the lady feed her, although she was shy to do so in front of the pope because some people believe it is unholy. In an interview later he said "Give people something to eat! That woman had milk to give to her child; we have enough food in the world to feed everyone." Social media sites have reacted very positively to his statement.

I think this is great. The new pope seems to be more open and liberal than previous popes, and I believe some of his ideas are great. I am glad that he is so accepting and isn't judgemental about everything like previous ones. I also think it's great how he stands by his beliefs and acts upon them.

Theater Accident in London

The Apollo Theatre in London, England, built in 1901, recently collapsed... partly.  During a show attended by about 700 people, the ceiling started to collapse.  Martin Bostock, an audience member, said,"At first we thought it was part of the show, then I got hit in the head."  The collapse was related to a heavy rainstorm that started at about 7:00 in the evening, the crash occuring at about 8:15.  Dozens of people were injured, five of them being sent to the hospital.  No deaths have been reported.

Maybe they should change the laws of business maintenance in England.  This theater, being more than 110 years old, obviously had not been observed for safety in a while.  If a storm is going to make it collapse, there is a problem.  I just hope that those who were injured turn out alright.  This also makes me think about other historic theaters.  Then again, this might have just been a freak accident we don't have to worry about.  You can never be sure.

'Blackfish' prompts school to cancel long-standing SeaWorld trip - Allie Gonzales

http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/18/us/school-cancels-seaworld-california/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Summary:
With a parade of performers already canceling appearances at SeaWorld, now at least one school class says it's dropping a long-scheduled trip to the park over concerns about the treatment of whales as shown in the documentary "Blackfish."The overnight trip to SeaWorld has been a tradition for fifth-graders at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School in Malibu, California, for at least a decade, according to Principal Rebecca Johnson, but concerns from parents and students including one determined 10-year-old prompted a decision to go elsewhere on this year's trip.Although Johnson mostly credited parents for influencing the change, several parents CNN spoke with said 10-year-old Kirra Kotler played a major role in the decision. The girl watched the film "Blackfish" with her parents and immediately afterward announced, "I never want to go to SeaWorld again," according to her father, Kirby Kotler. The Kotler family had taken trips to SeaWorld several times he.said."Blackfish" -- which first aired on CNN in October -- traces a 39-year history of killer whales in captivity leading up to the 2010 killing of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau by the 12,000-pound orca, Tilikum, a whale previously associated with the death of two other people.

Analysis:
In my opinion I feel the school did the right thing for ive seen the film myself and the things that Sea World does to these whales are horrible. I personally don't ever want to attend Sea World myself after seeing the documentary. Also if everything in the film is not true, I don't understand why Sea World isn't speaking up.

Remarks about gays prompt suspension of 'Duck Dynasty' star - Allie Gonzales

http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/19/showbiz/duck-dynasty-suspension/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Summary:
Is this man simply expressing his beliefs or spewing bigotry? Either way, Phil Robertson, the patriarch in A&E's "Duck Dynasty," won't be duck calling on air anytime soon. The network suspended him after he made controversial remarks about gays in a magazine interview."It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical," he's quoted as saying.
When asked what he thought was sinful, Robertson replied: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."But homosexuals aren't alone, Robertson said. "Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

Analysis:
In my opinion I feel Mr. Roberts shouldnt have said those things knowing how popular he is. He should've known what he was getting himself into by saying what he had said. I hope he learns his lesson.

Target: 40 million credit cards compromised - Allie Gonzales

http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/18/news/companies/target-credit-card/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Summary:
Late Wednesday, the Secret Service, which is charged with safeguard the nation's financial infrastructure and payment systems, confirmed it was investigating the breach. Spokesman Brian Leary declined further comment. The breach first came to light via a report from respected security researcher Brian Krebs that said Target had suffered a data breach around the time of Black Friday last month "potentially involving millions of customer credit and debit card records." The retailer said it notified authorities and financial institutions immediately after it was made aware of the unauthorized access, and had hired a forensics team to thoroughly investigate how the breach may have happened. "Target's first priority is preserving the trust of our guests and we have moved swiftly to address this issue, so guests can shop with confidence," said CEO Gregg Steinhafel in a statement. "We regret any inconvenience this may cause." The thieves reportedly gained access to data on the magnetic strips of shoppers' cards, potentially allowing them to produce counterfeit versions, according to Krebs. The thieves could also potentially withdraw cash from ATMs using counterfeit debit cards if they were able to intercept PIN data from Target, he said. "This is an ongoing investigation," an AmEx spokeswoman said, declining to comment further.

Analysis:
This is horrible! I hope they catch the thieves ASAP! I could only imagine the horrible impact this could have on many families.

Football and the World Cup Bring Together Bosnia & Herzegovina - by Frances

Bosnia and Herzegovina will enter the World Cup draw soon, and the whole country is exhilarated, and has been that way ever since Vedad Ibisevic qualified them by scoring a goal against Lithuania. That night, the team was welcomed by over 50,000 people welcomed the players for a parade in Sarajevo, the nation's capital. This is especially special because the country has been in recovery from what is considered the longest siege in modern history for a long time. It is the poorest country in Europe, and unemployment is at 44.5% It has also been divided for a long time, too. Bosnia and Herzegovina's football (soccer) team has been trying very hard for years to be recognized by Fifa and Uefa, which they finally might have done. The team now plays in the best leagues in Europe. Though it may not be able to replace or solve the country's problems, it unites the people and gives them a short moment to forget them and instead focus on national pride, something that has been long overdue.

The author of this article seems to dote very favourably on this achievement, though I can't blame him/her. In a country who's ethnic tensions have led to an attempt of ethnic cleansing (as we learned from the textbook) and even war, it's great to be able to find a common ground. This kind of reminds me of the movie "Invictus" and what Nelson Mandela did with the South African rugby team; he made them a pride of the nation to bring people together and make the country stronger, which it did in the end when they won the World Cup in 1995. Maybe Bosnia and Herzegovina will have that same success, but even if they don't, just qualifying for the World Cup must have been wonderful. The main idea the writer presented was that life in the country is still a struggle, and football can never be the ultimate solution, though it can make people forget their problems and draw out their emotions. I agree greatly with him, though I believe that this will do more for the country than just briefly lift their spirits. I could be a step in the right direction to peace and a better life.

French president skipping Sochi Olympics by Katelyn McLane

French President Francois Hollande has decided he's not attending the Sochi Olympics in Russia. At the London Olympics, eighty presidents, kings, queens, and other world leaders were reported to have attended. It doesn't look as if there will be as many this year. The French hope that the Olympics will be a success, but say that there probably won't be any high officials attending. They refused to explain their reasons further, like the Germans just a week before. Russia has been getting lots of complaints about alleged human rights violations, harassment of opposition political figures, and a new law banning "gay propaganda."

I think it's unfortunate that Russia, being the host country, isn't getting as much appreciation as past hosts. I also think, however, that whatever reason all these leaders have for not attending must be something major, and I'm really curious as to what it is. I hope none of this hate and possible discrimination influences the Olympics, though. I'm looking forward to them, and I really don't want any political drama ruining the Games for me. I hope the countries can work out their differences eventually.

small bomb in Ireland by:Shadden Hashem

Northern Ireland's leaders expressed Saturday a detonation of a small bomb in central Belfast that police said could have killed or injured people. The device exploded at around 7 p.m. on Friday in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter but no one was hurt. A warning was telephoned through to a Belfast newspaper, but police said the wrong location was given for the bomb which was left on a sidewalk by a busy restaurant and occured as police were clearing buildings. Chief Superintendent Alan McCrum said, "Those who carried out this attack have nothing to offer except disruption and destruction."
This is terrible. I don't get why some people would have the desire to just leave a bomb in a busy area with many people. As McCrum said, this event was nothing but disruptive and destructive.

A Bond That Grows Strong by Anna Pickett

Kevin Conboy saw ambulances going to his son's high school and immediately texted his son. A student at the school came in with a gun and shot another student. The father and son messaged each other over 70 more times. The messages made the father and son build a stronger bond and relationship.
I'm glad Conboy and his son were able to form a closer bond, but I don't like what was happening while the relationship grew strong. It's awful that there are so many school shootings, and how easily it can happen. I bet Conboy was terrified to see ambulances race to the school. I hope that the relationship between Conboy and his son will continue to grow stronger.

Belfast Bombed By: Hannah Kerman

In Belfast, Ireland, a bomb was detonated on Friday around 7 p.m. If there had been people around, they could have been killed or injured. Luckily, a warning was sent through, although it was to the wrong location, the police evacuated the area and the bomb didn't hurt anyone. This attack was put there to disrupt the lives of ordinary people, so these bombs must have a reason. The police are wondering if they are mad about the Union flag which angered loyalists, but they don't know. Their bombings are not going to help their movement to influence the government or the people.
I believe that people should be able to stand up for what they believe in, but if putting hundred's of people's lives at stake, you're no longer standing up for something, you are now threatening something. Luckily, the people weren't the victims in this case, but if the government doesn't find out who did that, they could start to become stronger and a stronger force is usually a harder one.

Horse Meat Scare in Paris! JULIA WOLTJEN

SUMMARY: Recently, 21 people were arrested under the suspicion that they used horses in medicinal treatments and horse meat somehow entered the consumer's diet. The scare was quickly put to rest by prosecutors who said that the meat posed no health problems. These people were arrested because they worked for a pharmacy company called Sanofi, which owned the horses. Police started looking when the horses health reports were faked.

ANALYSIS: This is so stupid I mean they need to have proof that the arrested actually had something to do with the investigation. But this can also be very scary for the patients and I hope that they are no longer seeking care from Sanofi.

More Euthanasia- Amanda Maceda

This November, over 15 paediatricians sent an open letter asking the lawmakers of Belgium to remove age limit for Euthanasia. 11 years ago, Euthanasia over age 18 was decriminalized, so this bill would also make Belgium the first country to make it legal for all ages. But, their are a few rules for it when it comes to the children. First, they must have a terminal illness and be undergoing intense pain that has no treatment. Then, they must understand what Euthanasia is and the parents and medical team also have to approve of their decision. While the senate voted 50-17 in favor, many people - some being religious leaders- don't approve at all.

Nelson Mandela funeral By Jackson Daughety

Summary: On Sunday, Nelson Mandela was laid to rest in South Africa. This took place in the village where he grew up, Qunu. His burial included many rituals both American and African, and truely was a fitting ending to his memory. His wife, Graca Machel attended. The flag from his coffin was given to his family. The service was more of a celebration of his life than a mourning of his death. Reaction: I think this is a beautiful thing. This man was truely an inspiration and contributed so much to societ. I am glad that he was buried in such a beautiful way. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/15/world/africa/nelson-mandela-qunu-funeral/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Spirits of Dumb and Deaf - Max Gaddis

http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/12/world/africa/mandela-memorial-fake-intepreter/index.html?hpt=iaf_c2

A sign language interpreter at the Nelson Mandela memorial was accused of being a fake on the grounds that his signs were totally meaningless. South Africa's minister of disabled women, people and children says there is no set standard for sign language and each person speaks a different dialect, but the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa says these signs also come with facial expressions, which the interpreter, Jantjie, did not use to accompany his signing. He also says that no other interpreter has heard of or met Jantjie and he is not widely known as an interpreter. Also, no one even knows who he works for or how he got hired for the memorial. He says he works under a woman and the name of the company is called "SA Interpreters" and that is all he has said. He didn't give any information about himself saying that his info was with the company. African National Congress says they did not hire him for the event because it was the state that organized the event. The state says they didn't use ANC's process of hiring because it they aren't the same and they have used Jantjie for other occasions. They also say that the conflict of Jantjie's work has never come up. Jantjie says that if the Deaf Federation of SA wants to say something about his work, why didn't they say it when he first began working, why now? Jantjie says he is suffering from schizophrenia and he is going through treatment.

I think this is a just another way to take advantage of disabled people, and why would they give a schizophrenic the responsibility of making deaf people understand what is going on? Why did they make his position so that people depended on him? I also want to know why the company he works for (if it exists) let him continue working when they found out his condition.

The Ukraine Explained in Two Parts. by Nash F.

The Ukraine a nation you have probably never heard about now (at least if you are American.) But how did come to be this way.

Part 1: The Situation.

The Ukraine was given a deal by the European Union to become an associated ally. The leaders of the country were about to sign it until the Ukrainian Government changed it's mind at the last minute and continue a deal with Russia instead. This made the people furious, they wanted to have the deal with the E.U. be signed rather than to continue deals with Russia. So the people took to the streets and the protest have gone rampant. And this is nothing new, the Ukraine has been doing this for years due to historical reasons that are really complicated but essentially when they were Allies with the Soviet Union they worked to keep the citizens in the dark.

Part 2: A Resolution?

So far none in sight but the main problem is that no one is quite sure what the exact thing are the protecters protesting about. Are they protesting about not taking the E.U.'s deal or are they protesting this because they no longer want to be in the dark any more. The answer to this question will define what kind of actions the E.U. will have to take. If you ask me I think that this problem better be resolved soon because those protesters are mad and they just might want to lead a rebellion.

People living on mars! By: Eleanor E-W

A Dutch company has built technology to take people to Mars! To live on it.  200,000 people have signed up to go--although only four are actually going. The project is going to be launched in 2018, and they are hoping that people will actually leave Earth in 2025. The four people who go to mars will not ever come back because the company thinks a one way trip will be much cheaper.

Wow! I had no idea that people on mars could be so close in the future.  I think it would be really amazing to travel to mars, but I would never want to go if I couldn't come back--I like Earth. I think it will be really fascinating if this mission actually succeeds.

Meggie hunt: frozen Ukraine protest

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/world/2013/12/10/ctw-ukraine-protest-diana-magnay-kiev.cnn.html

Currently in Ukraine protestors totaling to about 4 thousand stand in protest for going on 2 nights now. It's negative 8 degrees at the moment and barricades are in place with fully functioning hot drink stands as well as nutritious soup kitchens. There has been no violence but protestors are determined and are still working on sustaining their position as long as possible.
I think that its really immensely impressive just how organized and well maintained the protests are and how resilient everyone is. I certainly hope that change can be achieved peacefully and without violence. The protestors show no sign of relenting but conditions are quite harsh and while I'm sure that the protestors are full of resources, it is unlikely that they could continue for very long with out suffering from the effects of weather and other factors.

russia and cuba sign a deal By Polly Hynds-Riddle

Russia and Cuba have been arguing over Cuba's $32 billion debt for 20 years and have finally decided to sign an agreement to forgive 90% of the debt (which is $29 billion) this is a big deal!

i think this is great because the debt came from a rough time with cuba and so since they were able to agree to help them out russia is cool for that

Sleepover on the Airplane by Zoey Crummey

Tom Wagner fell asleep as he was taking his flight from Lagayette to Houston, as many people do on airplanes. The next day he woke up in a dark, empty, and locked plane. Apparently nobody had thought to wake him up when the plane landed, and none of the flight crew saw him as they were leaving the plane. It's all very unusual, especially since Wagner claims he isn't a very deep sleeper. When he was discovered later on, he received a free hotel room and a $250 voucher from United.

This is so odd to me that something like this could happen! You would think that somebody on the plane would have noticed and woken him up! I guess not. I hope this never happens to me, I know I'd be scared if I woke up in a dark and empty plane all by myself. I doubt this will ever happen again, and I'm glad he received some money for his trouble.

UK air traffic by: Shadden Hashem

The UK's air traffic control center in Swanwick had a technical issue which caused delays to hundreds of flights on Saturday across the United Kingdom, including Heathrow Airport. The National Air Traffic Services said that it had identified the problem and anticipated it would take until 6:30 p.m. that day to resolve.
This is terrible. So many people must have been so angry and upset.

Protests in Ukraine - by Frances Garnett

December 2 in Kiev, Ukraine there were about five or six thousand protesters outside the building of the Ukraininan government, also blocking the entrances to the building of the National Bank of Ukraine, the Club of the government and the building of the Cabinet. They were demanding that the president, Viktor Yanukovych, resign and that the parliament and government be dissolved. Earlier, they had seized the City Hall and tried to storm the building of the presidential administration. At least 260 people (120 police officers, 112 protesters, and 28 journalists) have been injured in clashes with the police. The authorities are now contradicting rumours that they will use force again to quell the protests, also saying that tanks will be arriving in Kiev because of the coming state of emergency. These are the biggest protests Ukraine has seen since the Orange Revolution in 2004.

I'm not completely sure about what it going on with the Ukrainian president, or why people want him out of office, but I did see an article about how it doesn't seem that democracy is coming to Ukraine. I guess that former Soviet Union countries are still trying to achieve a stable government and economic system, and that will probably take more time to develop, since developed countries in Western Europe are still dealing with those kinds of issues. I wonder if you ever can achieve a "perfect" democracy, because most nations and empires eventually fall. Still, I hope that these protests are making progress, instead of just causing more trouble.

Ten year coma prank by Zoey Crummey

Tom Mabe and his friend Jim Clark decided to play a prank on one of their friends, who had five DUI's. Not only were they trying to be funny and clever, they were also trying to get him to understand the seriousness of his actions. When he passed out drunk in his truck, they immediately transferred him to an office that they set up to look like a hospital room. When he woke up, the "doctor" calmly explained that he had been in a coma for ten years. The man seemed to be shocked and kept asking for his daughter. When they finally revealed that it was a prank, he began laughing and obviously didn't get the message.

I think that this was a great idea to try and help that man, although it obviously didn't help at all. Driving under the influence is a very serious  thing, and people should never ever drink and drive because the consequences can be devastating. I feel so bad for the man who was drinking, if he couldn't see how he needed to change after his, then who knows what he'll get himself into one day.

Human trafficking in Britian By Jackson Daughety

> A human trafficking bust took place this Sunday. Two people were arrested and three were freed. The men ranged from 30-50, they were taken to a safe place where they will receive help. The authorities believe that at least five other people were involved. They found a lot of money of the scene and there is assumed to be much more. > Its pretty freaky that this still happens today. Its just so horrible that people want money so much that they have to ruin other people's lives just to get it. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/08/world/europe/uk-slavery-arrests/index.html?hpt=ieu_c2

Storm Batters Europe Eliana Perez

Heavy rain and strong winds battered eastern Europe and Scotland Thursday, disrupting road and rail traffic as northwestern Europe braced for heavy storms seeping across the North Sea and North Atlantic.
A truck driver was killed in West Lothian, west of Edinburgh, when his truck overturned and hit other vehicles. Four others involved in the collision suffered minor injuries.
Farther south, England was facing the most serious coastal tidal surge in more than 60 years, the Environment Agency warned.

Some towns and cities on the Norfolk coast were evacuating. The 1953 North Sea storm surge killed about 1,800 people in the Netherlands and more than they were then.

Glasgow Central Station was evacuated after debris damaged the building's glass roof. The worst of the storm later passed in some areas, and train service in Scotland began to run again.
High winds spark power cuts and Germany braces for severe storm.
All flights are being canceled until further notice.

Tourists going to space? By: Hannah Kerman

Virgin Galactic, a space company founded by the same person that founded Virgin Mobile, is thinking that in 2043, they'll have tourists in space. A press conference in the UK brought together Virgin Galactic and other space companies as they share about how they believe in the next 30 years, or sooner, they will have tourists touring the moon or simply taking a really short flight from one place to another all over the world.
I believe that this idea seems a little far fetched, but that is what people said about the computer, and look what we have now! I do believe it's possible, but i don't think it will ever become something that people will do for vacation. There are so many risks in letting people into space, and it would take so much training and there would be so many rules in place to make sure that no one dies. This would not be a normal vacation and because it takes so much, I don't think it would appeal to the people very much. Besides all of those factors, it would be crazy expensive and absolutely awful for our environment. Then again, someone else said that people would get tired of staring at a box called a television all day, but that seems to be all that people do today.

New 2015 Ford Mustang BY TREVOR WALKER

With the worldwide unveiling of the new 2015 Ford Mustang complete, enthusiasts and critics alike have seen every angle of the new model. So far, the verdict has come back positive for Ford, with praise from many corners for preserving the essence of the Mustang while giving it some much-needed mechanical updates. But there's a gentle dissenting opinion from a few corners asking why Ford didn't go further in pushing the Mustang forward. And it builds from a deeper problem for today's auto enthusiasts — a dwindling supply of new ideas. Whether it's the Subaru BRZ or the Chevy Corvette Stingray, putting a wagon end on a sports car makes it alluring to those of us who obsess over form versus function. Despite this lust, such models have found little purchase in the real world; no car has ever had a higher ratio of words composed to actual sales than the Cadillac CTS wagon, the last time an automaker tried to turn car magazine encomiums into sheet metal. As our galleries of past Mustang development demonstrate, Ford always struggles with how much retro to put into a new Mustang's design, a problem that General Motors can sidestep with the Camaro to a larger degree after its exile. But beneath the skin, the 2015 Mustang plays variations on well-worn themes: the same wheelbase, the same engines and same transmissions. The lack of surprise in the new Mustang has less to do with any leaked info — fans have heard for years that the new Mustang would get an EcoBoost turbo engine option — than the conservative nature of the auto business. Ford will never do a diesel wagon Mustang for Euro-minded alternadads, not just because it wouldn't sell that well even in Europe, but also because it blasphemes the church of the '60s muscle car. It would never drop the V-8 for a twin-turbo six-cylinder, or put in a performance hybrid-electric system, because of the commandment that thou shalt not seek replacement for displacement. Why not ask for a six-wheel version while you're at it, heretic?
Such heresies often come from the younger generation of enthusiasts in part because the auto industry's conservatism has triggered a vacuum of innovation — in technology, marketing and vehicles that younger buyers can afford. Much of the tech in today's cars goes toward improving fuel economy to offset feature bloat, while adding touch screens systems that often fall short of what's available on a two-year-old iPad, just as the average new-car price rises to $32,000. Give Ford credit for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST, because without them the entry-level performance arena would be even smaller; there's nothing like them from either GM or Chrysler, leaving a couple of entries from Hyundai, the Honda Civic Si, and not much else. (Where have you gone, Mazdaspeed3?) The BRZ and Scion FR-S, which together will sell a meager 25,000 copies in the United States this year, can lay claim to being the new generation's sports car of choice simply by default. We are more than a decade into the 21st century, and yet most of the sports cars available today carry names that predate the Nixon administration. When it was introduced in 1964, the Mustang's base price equaled about $17,000 in today's money. Given its growth in size and price, there's room under the new Stang for a smaller rear-wheel-drive performance car — an entry that might have buyers lining up at Ford dealerships like they did before the original Mustang's unveiling in April 1964. Today, you only see lines like that outside electronics stores — where people expect, and often find, goods that truly surprise them.

HUGE Floods in Europe by Anna Pickett

Record floods are occurring in Europe, which are the largest since 1953. Winds up to 140 mph have been recorded. Train service has been suspended because of flooding on the train tracks. Many places lost power, so police officers are visiting multiple homes to help. The storm hasn't reached Germany yet, so they're bracing themselves in case of damage.
This is scary!  Many people have probably died in this huge storm! My thoughts and prayers go to the parts of Europe where the storm is hitting REALLY hard!

Family Language - Max Gaddis

http://travel.cnn.com/all-hungarian-me-udvozoljuk-one-europes-trickiest-languages-332111?hpt=hp_c5&iid=article_sidebar

Hungarian is one of the most challenging languages in Europe that there is. It is more closely related to Estonian than any other language in Europe. The only thing that related it to the other languages around it is that it uses latin letters. That is really about it. Some examples of words from Hungrarian language include "Ãœdvözöljük Miskolcon" which is "Welcome to Miskolc". It is pronounced "Mish-kolts" because the "s" sound in Hungarian is pronounced as "sh" and the hard "c" sound is "ts". So "Budapest" would be "Budapesht". Some words aren't that hard like, "goulash" and "paprika". Although Hungarian is the most difficult of them all, German and Russian come close. The German word for "lover" is "lebensabschnittpartner" with "leben" being akin to "libeling", or "loved one", and "partner" being obvious. The rest of the word is really just added syllables with no real meaning or purpose than to make the word longer. Foreigners even say that Hungarian sounds way different from the other Germanic, Slavic, or Romance language, saying it sounds like singing because of the added difficulty of vowel tempos and patterns.

I agree that Hungarian is more challenging and more complex then the other languages because I know how German and Russian sound like and I honestly thought they were the most difficult languages until i heard Hungarian.

Russia news by Becca Hodge

The president of Russia, Valdimir Putin, shut down the state-owned news agency RIA Novisti to be replaced with Russia Today. All of the people attached to the news agency have been switched out with Kremlin supports who work directly with the government. This is so only certain pieces of information about the government with be released and that the government will have control over the news entirely.

This is strange but I understand why they are doing this. Russia wants to in control of everything that goes on, including the news. And what better way of doing that then by running the news themselves? I just hope that they release information that needs to be released and not just the fluff they put in to make that big problems seem littler that they actually are.

Pope Francis Against Sexual Abuse On Minors by Kera Mickus

Pope Francis is creating a program to prevent the abuse of minors and to support victims of abuse, Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley announced Thursday in Rome. But he also said that the church has focused on the judicial aspect of sexual abuse in the past, and that Pope Francis now wants to focus on the pastoral side, and caring for victims. The eight-member Council of Cardinal Advisers, which has been in Rome since Monday meeting with the Pope, proposed the special program and the Pope accepted it, O'Malley said.
The Vatican news service released a statement outlining the commission's lines of action, including a look at guidelines, priest "formation" programs, codes of conduct, and screening candidates for priesthood.
No timetable for the establishment of the panel was given.

I actually find this really surprising and doubt this will work. Im not saying I believe it wont work, but I have high doubts people will put their trust in the Vatican and Pope due to all the previous scandals in preceding Popes. It seems like a good idea to create a program that will actually deal with the aftermath and psychological effects sexaul abuse will leave on the victim, but coming from a person in, unfortunately, a line of abusers, I believe he's not the best leader or candidate of heirarchy to deal with this.

Ukraine protesters topple statue-Andrew Tunell

In Kiev Ukraine protesters tore down a statue of Vladimir Lenin a leader of the Russian revolution. The protesters were angered when the president refused integration with the European Union. Tens of thousands of protesters have been interfering with the government of Kiev. Some protesters are now calling for a government resignation, and a revolution might soon take place.

This event could soon start more turmoil in Ukraine. Many of the citizens are unhappy and hopefully they will join the EU.

Sweden spying on Russia? by Josie Blossfeld

Summary: Sweden's intelligence agency has been caught spying on Russian leaders and sharing the information they gathered with NSA. Communications have been heard between Swedish spies and the NSA, in which the NSA thanked Sweden for its "continued work on the Russian target". In an interview, a journalist by the name of Glenn Greenwald commented on the recent relations. Direct quote from news report (referring to the NSA and Sweden's involvement in the espionage): “work together when they perceive that their interests are mutually aligned and share information readily about a whole variety of topics, again having nothing to do with national security, including the energy sector in Russia.”

Analysis: This is real sus. What do they need the business info for? Seems like just them being nervous about economic competition, and the competitive business industry, but trust is a much needed thing in countries like Russia and Sweden. Hopefully nothing will blow up between them.

Hundreds of Flights cancelled in the United Kingdom by Bob Cummins

On Saturday, a faulty switch at the National Air Traffic Service in Swanwick, England caused hundreds of flight cancellations, the most cancellations occurring in Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in the world, where 228 flights were cancelled, leaving many customers very dissatisfied.  There were so many rebookings, that some customers waited around five hours to speak to airline representatives.  Many let off steam on Twitter.  Helena Lucas, a British Paralympic sailor, said, "Customer service is crowded with unhappy people!"  Irish airline, Ryanair, said, "While we acknowledge problems can occur, where is the contingency?  It's simply not good enough and the CAA need to act now."  After 11 hours of delays and cancellations, the NATS announced that the problem was fixed and that "operations are returning to normal," according to one of their spokesmen.  By the end of the dilemma, Eurocontrol said that somewhere around 1,300 flights were "severely delayed".

If I was one of these people who had their flights cancelled, I would be furious.  The funny thing is that this entire thing was caused by one faulty switch.  This means that their equipment should probably be checked more often.  I don't think that these airlines will lose that much business, because it wasn't their fault.  It was the fault of the NATS, at which some changes in staff might be coming soon... maybe in the control panel area of things...  This article is important for people who want to know that even the biggest companies and/or authorities can screw things up big time.

Woman finds out husband dies in car crash Julia F

Trooper William Finn, a spokesman with the Washington State Patrol, was tweeting Wednesday under the handle @wspd5pioabout an accident on Vancouver's Interstate 205. A woman had been tweeting about the terrible accident that occured when suddenly she called her husband many times and he wasn't picking up. She later found out that the person who had died in the crash was her husband.

This is so sad to hear. This is so terrible I wouldn't know what to do in her case.

More discovery about Plane crash- Amanda Maceda

On November 17, a Tatarstan Airlines plane crashed at Kazan airport. It took a nose-dive and everyone on the plane died. The plane did not have any tech problems, but it seems the pilot might have. "On Friday, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said that investigators were still examining Salikhov's qualifications." It seems that he got a commercial licence from a flight center(now shut down). "Mr Markin told Russia's Interfax news agency there was reason to believe "many pilots, working for smaller Russian airlines" had "effectively received fake commercial licences" as they had not undergone proper training." Will France fine prostitutes' clients? by Katelyn McLane

The French lower house has passed a bill to fine prostitutes' clients. The bill still has to be passed by the Senate and be signed by the president before it becomes law. Prostitution is currently legal in France for prostitutes and their clients. Citizens are protesting for and against this law. There are currently about 20,000 prostitutes in France, and 90% of them are from foreign countries.

I think this law is a good idea. If prostitutes' clients are punished for paying for sex, then they won't do it. Because of that, prostitutes will be less likely to keep selling off their bodies since they won't get any "business." Plus, prostitution is just plain horrible. People who can pay for sex and not feel bad about it are, in my opinion, very bad people. We all know what happens to prostitutes. As they carry on with what they do, they start withering away. They become ghostly, depressed, mostly dead humans, who can't see a way out of their current situation. It's a terrible thought, and I think making prostitutes' clients pay for the horrible deeds they do will decrease the amount of prostitution in France. I hope this law is passed by the Senate and president.

Storm Rage, By: Jon Cope

Storm Rage, By Jon Cope

Summary:
Recently in Europe a deadly storm occurred; a hurricane and bad weather had caused serious issues. Because of this, many public transit systems have been ruined, trees have fallen, cars have been tipped over, streets have been flooded, electrical and phone lines have been ruined, causing MANY deaths!

Analysis:
I think this is horrible, as it's very sad that all these lives have been lost. I think traffic will be much a bigger problem as the streets have been messed up. I also find it very sad for the lives/homes that have been lost as these houses on the coast fall off the cliff as a tide pulls them.

Ukraine's Tymoshenko Ends Hunger Strike at Pro-EU Protesters' Behest by Angelica Fischer

Protesters look out over an anti-government rally in Independence Square on Tuesday in Kiev, Ukraine. Yulia Tymoshenko has ended her 12 day hunger strike. Eugenia Tymoshenko says her mother is very weak after what is her third hunger strike. She stopped her fast at the request of anti-government protesters. The government of President Viktor Yanukovich suspended talks with the European Union last month, angering many Ukrainians.

The people of Ukraine are protesting against the present government because it failed. This isn't good, why would Yulia Tymoshenko have hunger strikes? I wonder if she will keep doing these hunger strikes? (I mean she's already done three of them) I hope they figure out something so that these hunger strikes stop soon.

Baby, its cold outside!? By: Bella Morris

This weekend was flat out amazing for north Texans. A winter storm blew through Northeast Texas. Dallas temps at 28 degrees, that being colder than Alaska, which is currently at 34 degrees, that's insane. Over 200,000 Texans lost electricity Thursday all the way to Friday due to this harsh weather. Schools were canceled (YES!!) all across the Northeast of Texas. So for students, all of our Thursday's were made. Roads are extremely dangerous to travel on, businesses, schools, churches, you name it, closed this Friday. Even though we all love this wintry wonderland, its very dangerous to be traveling in. Flights were canceled, all across the globe and people were in total panic of where they were going to go for the holidays which are soon approaching.
This day has been fun more most of us, but for others it has been tragic. Due to the icy roads there have been several accidents going from place to place. A death has been reported, a mans car spun out of control in Hockney County. News casts, saying the death was definitely related to the weather but cant report any more details other than that. I hope snow keeps falling but the icy roads clear up, its nice to have school off but too dangerous for other people to get around and its always a risky drive everywhere you go. It finally feels like winter in Texas!

The French Have Too Much Love - Max Gaddis

http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/04/world/europe/france-prostitution-vote/index.html

The French house has voted to fine clients of prostitution for participating in the act. It could be months until the bill gets approved by the President, but it's a start towards freeing sex slaves from the practice and eliminating mafias and pimping. Research implies that there are around 20,000 prostitutes in France with 85% of them women and 99% of the clients men. It also states that the percentage of foreign-born prostitutes jumped in 1999 to 2000 from 10% to 90% coming from countries like Romania, Bulgaria Nigeria and China.

I think this law is good and it will help many people. It will also help the moral of French citizens and humans all over the world.

Two Security Gaurds fired for taking photos with Tom Brady!!! BY TREVOR WALKER

If you're lucky enough to land a job that gets you into an NFL game for free, part of the deal is that you're not permitted to pester the Gods In Attendance for autographs, photographs, loans, fathering of children, et cetera. You're all here to do a job, and part of that involves being somewhat professional in the execution of your duties. So it's no surprise, then, that Reliant Stadium didn't look too kindly on two of its security guards posing for pictures with Tom Brady after Sunday's Texans-Patriots game. Christopher Moore and Joel Williams caught Brady as he was headed to the team bus after his media duties, and asked him for a quick snap. Brady complied, but immediately afterward, Williams told KHOU and the hammer dropped. “Immediately after I took the picture, I got ran down by a supervisor,” Williams said.
“They didn’t really give a reason. They said, you know, you’re wrong and you’re fired."
Contemporary Services Corporation, which handles staffing for Texans games, released a statement to KHOU which read: "It is strictly against CSC policy for its employees to request photos or autographs from players. CSC stands by its decision to terminate the two employees who violated this policy.” Williams said he was already done with his duties for the day. Moore employed the "others do it, why can't we?" angle. Neither approach worked.
As annoying as the NFL's do-not-look-the-players-in-the-eye-you-peasants stance is for employees, it's understandable; if players had to run a gauntlet of autograph- and photo-seeking employees every time they stepped out of the locker room, nothing would ever get done. And the last thing you want your security detail to be is starstruck. It's reminiscent of the 2012 American League Division Series, when two Maryland state troopers drew heat for asking Yankees Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher for autographs.
And hey, it could've been worse. They could've tried to get a picture with Bill Belichick. That could've ended in blood. I honestly don't agree with what they did because they signed the contract and they don't really need a picture of they love it every single week!

1st fatal shooting in Iceland- JULIA WOLTJEN

SUMMARY: This is the first fatal police shooting in the country of Iceland. this extremely unusual because the regular police squad does not have weapons at any time. The gun violence in Iceland is so low they don't need them to protect themselves....until now. The police where called to an apartment Monday night when a shotgun was fired inside the flat, when the police then tried to approach the gunman they were shot at. Many other options were used before armed policemen then entered the apartment and fired. The gunman was rushed to the hospital but did not make it. There were not other injuries.

ANALYSIS: It is incredible that there has never been a fatal shooting in Iceland. And I hope that the US can learn something from Icehttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/iceland/10490029/Officers-kill-gunman-in-Icelands-first-fatal-police-shooting.htmlland and it's low record of violence.

Baby Swap!! JULIA WOLTJEN

SUMMARY: Almost 60 years ago two babies were born and given to the wrong mothers. Today they have had DNA testing done that showed that the life and family they had lived was completely wrong! Both say how extraordinary the discovery is and that they are excited to meet their real families.

ANALYSIS: This is kind of scary....imagine the family you have isn't really your blood family! I mean they should still have strong connections with the opposite family but really get to know they're real family. Sadly on of the men's birth parents have both passed away so he will never get to meet them...

BBC SHERLOCK! by Polly Hynds-Riddle

BBC's hit show sherlock has been way over due for it's 3rd season. it had left its fans waiting for 2 years but the fandom is going strong and screaming for more of the perfect on screen chemistry of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson n a modern day london. For the us the dates had been released over a month ago (jan. 19 for the first of three) but the british fans have only just now jotted that it will be on
that is right january first that The Empty Hearse  will be premiering on BBC for the eccentric british sherlokians!!

I'm a fan of the series and cannot wait to see how they solve the big cliffhanger at the end of season two  i cannot go into detail because i wouldn't want t spoil anything for anyone but it was a doozie (expected because of the books but unexplainable)

couple charged $3,500 for a negative review by: Eleanor E-W

A couple ordered something a few years ago from KlearGear.com. When the item never came, the couple posted a negative review about KlearGear on the internet. Several years later KlearGear contacted them and asked that the review be taken down within 72 hours. The couple was unable to (for technology related reasons) and were fine $3,500.  According to KlearGear, in the documents that the couple signed when they purchased something from KlearGear, it stated that you could not post negative reviews about the products online.

I think it's wrong that the couple were fined so much money! The company sounds like its trying to rip off its customers. I think I will try to read the terms of agreement before I sign them next time!

Scottish Copter Crash Eliana Perez

A Scottish helicopter crashed in to a Glasgow pub this weekend with out sending out a distress call before the crash. The helicopter didn't have a flight data recorder, said David Miller, deputy chief inspector of the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
The wreckage of the helicopter was lifted off the pub Monday. Authorities in Scotland found nine victims at the site.
The pub was packed with about 150 people listening to a band Friday night when the crash occurred. Eleven of the 32 people hurt remain in the hospital across Glasgow on Sunday, and the body of another victim was found late Sunday morning. The remains of the latest victim has not yet been identified.
An ambulance, escorted by police, later left the scene. Firefighters, ambulance staff, and police officers formed a guard of honor as the vehicle passed.
Many people could have been injured if the helicopter were to explode, and would have hit some of the near by shops and people walking along the streets of Glasgow. Luckily that happen anyone nearby didn't get hurt.

Sirian migrants saved from off Itialy's cost by Sam Stromness

Recently two Italian rescue ships saved a boat full of over a hundred Sirian migrants looking to escape the war. Many of the passangers were woman and children and all were exausted after severe storms hit during their journey. These passengers are lucky to be alive as of earlier this year over 400 Siran migrants died trying to flee to Italy by boat because of bad weather that caused the ships to wreck and people to be drowned.

I am glad they were able to rescue all those people especially after many before them haven't been quite so lucky. It's terrible that these people's country is in a state where so many are trying to flee. I think being able to come to anew country is a great thing for them and I wish that everyone could have a chance like that and not have to risk their lives in the process.

Factory Fire in Italy Leaves 7 Dead by Bob Cummins

Recently, 11 people working in a Chinese-owned clothing factory in Prato, Italy were caught off guard while they were asleep and were caught in the violent flames of a factory fire.  Seven of them died.  The cause of the fire is still undefined.  This raises a few questions about the safety of the workers in these Chinese-owned factories.  Enrico Rossi, the regional governor of Tuscany, said that some clothing factories had connections with Chinese organized crime, and the mayor of Prato, Roberto Cenni said that authorities have been inspecting these businesses and closing the illegal ones.  Roberto Pistonina from the CISL trade union branch in Prato and Florence spoke about people "living and working in conditions of near-slavery".

The police in Prato needs to keep inspecting these businesses and shut down these illegal or unsafe businesses.  "Near-slavery" working conditions are unacceptable in any country.  Maybe by finding these businesses, they can solve some problems in China related to organized crime.    This fire serves as an example to any businessman about worker safety.  Now this doesn't mean that these people were smart to sleep on the job, but places with dangerous working conditions like these need to be either fixed or shut down.

Ew, Cannibalism By: Hannah Kerman

Two days ago a police officer in Germany was arrested for killing and eating a man. Apparently the men had met online on a cannibalism site and from there, they chose a date to meet up. On November 4, The men did meet and they went up to the officer's house. From there, the officer slaughtered him and buried him in the yard. The slaughtered man had apparently wanted to be killed and eaten, which is why he went to meet the officer. Later, the man was reported missing , and two days ago they arrested the officer.
I think that this is just disgusting, and cannibalism is awful. Humans are not clean and wanting to eat them is just plain wrong, which is why it is illegal. I believe that this man should pay for what he did and if you are fantasizing about being killed and eaten, you may need some help. These views are just my opinions, and I hope I don't offend anyone.

Driverless cars --technology/economy Robert swofford

The dream of a driverless car has been a huge dream for car retailers for a long time now. Would you believe it's possibly true now? Volvo has released 100 test cars with no drivers, to roam around and driver amongst people traffic and parking lots. Although this is a great advancement in technology, and even Sweden has placed gold on Volvo for transportation advancements later in the future, yet these are not 100% automatic, since these prototypes still require someone at the wheel to occasionally take control incase of accidents, or very narrow passages which the car may fail in. these cars are not said to come out until 2017 but the odds seem very good. Who knows, we might be able to get a ride to work everyday without there need of someone else.

China Smog by Bette Rathjen

http://world.time.com/2013/12/02/shanghai-officials-tell-children-elderly-to-stay-inside-due-to-smog/?hpt=hp_t3

The smog in china has gotten so bad that citizens are wearing masks in the street! I think this is awful and I think that China really should do something about the terrible polluted air. It is so polluted in China that it would be miserable to live there in that smog.

Lion Attacks Lioness by Anna Pickett

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2013/11/18/dnt-lion-kills-lioness-at-zoo.wfaa.html

Two lions at the Dallas Zoo attacked and killed a lioness while visitors watched. It looked like they were playing at first, but the lioness was struggling against the male lions. One of the male lions had his mouth around her neck for a few minute until she stopped struggling. People don't know what caused them to attack.
This is just...different. It's too bad that kids had to see that happening, even though they were probably rushed away quickly. Every time I think of lions, I think of Lion King, so this is sort of weird to think about... I really feel bad for the witnesses and the people who took care of the lioness!

Man stole delivery truck because he was 'running from zombies'- Julianne Swaykus

"Garrett Howard Hurlbut, 23, was charged with stealing a motor vehicle on Sept. 29. Just after 1 a.m., according to court documents, Hurlbut stole the Star Tribune delivery truck while its driver was dropping off newspapers inside an Apple Valley Kwik Trip on W. 145th St." Policeman later found him next to the truck drunk and bloodshot/watery eyes.
I think that this is very dangerous because he was way over the legal limit to drink and drive.

French soldier accused of cannibalism- Julianne Swaykus

Jérémy Rimbaud, who fought with British soldier against the Taliban, has just admitted to breaking into a 90-year-old's home in Nouilhan and beating him with a metal rod until he died. After he died, he cut him open with a penknife, then cooked and ate his tongue and heart. Jérémy is 26 years old.
I think that this is a very creepy story and I feel bad for Jérémy because he has post traumatic stress disorder because he served in the war.

Power Cuts, Evacuations, As Heavy Storms Sweep Europe by Angelica Fischer

Strong winds and heavy rain battered Scotland and eastern England the beginning of this December, disrupting rail and road traffic. Thousands lode power at home in Scotland, Northern Ireland. Many peoples power was restored but some still waiting. One even killed, truck driver killed in a collision as winds up to 90 mph battered Scotland. And England was facing the most serious coastal tidal surge in more than 60 years. Also weather warnings issued and flights canceled in Germany.

This horrible, people shouldn't be driving or going outside at all during weather like this. I think that next time there's weather warnings like this, everyone should just stay home and wait for good news about the weather that way no one will get hurt or even die.

Amanda Maceda- Prime minister accused of a "Sexy" Bribing

In July, three of Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi were convicted of procuring prostitutes. Recentlry, a court Judgement accused him of bribing witnesses $3,400 a month to give false testimony. His conviction is paying for sex with an underage prostitute and is appealing against it."He has also been convicted of a breach of confidentiality over a police wiretap - a verdict against which he is also appealing." The prime minister denies any wrongdoing and lost his seat on the senate wednesday because of another conviction (this time tax fraud).

German policeman arrested in alleged cannibalism case by Katelyn McLane

A German policeman is suspected of murdering and butchering a man he met on a cannibalism website. They met on November 4th at the policeman's house, and the murdered man was reported missing later in November. The policeman confessed to killing the man, but nothing else. It's still undetermined whether he actually ate any of the man's body parts or not. The dead man had agreed to being killed and eaten, and had fantasized about it since his youth. The policeman, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested on duty and is awaiting his trial. This was surprising for his colleagues, who said he was very nice and normal as far as they knew.

First of all, whatever website the men met each other on should be shut down immediately. Why are there even websites for cannibalism allowed on the internet? Granted, officials might not know about them at first, but once something like this happens as a result of people meeting on a website for cannibals, I sincerely hope that people have enough common sense to shut the website down as quickly as possible. Anyway, I find it very odd that a policeman, aka someone who hates murder and crime of any sort more than anyone else, would do something like this. Instead of agreeing to kill and eat a man, send them to a mental hospital! Obviously they aren't thinking straight and need major help. I hope the policeman goes to jail and is punished for his crimes, and I also hope that officials put an end to all websites that put people's lives in danger like this. It's sick, and definitely shouldn't still be happening in our advanced societies.

hackers by: Shadden Hashem

Many attempts have been made to hack the cellphones of aides to prince Charles, William, and Harry. Between October 2005 and August 2006, there were 416 attempts to hack a voicemail to William and Harry.
Wow these hackers need to keep away from the personal lives of the princes. It's awful that they can't even call people without having to be cautious.

Belgium Lawmakers Supporting Under-Age Euthanasia by Kera Mickus

On Wednesday, a controversial bill would continue the right to request euthanasia to children with terminal illness and adults suffering from dementia cleared a vote in a Belgian Senate meeting. The panel voted 13 -4 to allow the euthanasia under certain circumstances, said Patrick Peremans - the communications director for the Senate - told CNN. The bill, though, has not passed all the parts, yet, and has more troubles to overcome before being put into action. In 2002, the Belgian Senate passed a law to allow adults to request euthanasia, but the new law is extending rights to under-18 minors, who, under the most extreme and stringent conditions, want to end their life.
However, critics question whether children are capable of making an informed decision on whether to end their own lives.
The Netherlands already allows children over the age of 12 to request euthanasia with the consent of their parents. Since the law was introduced in 2002, only five children have chosen to die that way.
I think it's actually a good idea, since doctor and patients probably do it more than we really realize - since they do it "illegally", which creates room for problems and treating the patient harshly. I think the patients asking for the euthanasia should definitely be evaluated by trained psychologists and their mental state should be examined. Children and teens do make good decisions, as well as bad decisions, and making a bad decision in this situation would equal a termination of their life. I thins its a touchy subject, and either way there are consequences.
