Alabama tornado- Jade pierre

On early Wednesday a tornado ripped through Alabama and killed 3 people as well as injuring 2 others. Two other people were also killed in Tennessee in the same severer weather that traveled southeast. The storm damaged and destroyed 1.5 mile path in Jackson county knocking down power lines, and damaging mobile homes. The local officials have started to treat injured people and fix some of the damage that has been done.
Tornadoes can be a very scary thing to experience especially because they are so unpredictable. Good thing this tornado wasn't ant more severe than it was!

11/14/16 Anne Frank Poem Found- Theresa Dvorocsik

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/23/europe/netherlands-anne-frank-poem-auction/index.html

A rare handwritten poem by Anne Frank (known to millions through the diary she kept while in hiding during the Nazi round-up of Jews) was sold Wednesday at auction for 140,000 euros ($148,000) in the Netherlands.
The poem, also signed by Anne Frank, was written in the "friendship book" of Christiane "Cri-Cri" van Maarsen, the older sister of Frank's best friend, Jacqueline van Maarsen, according to auction house Bubb Kuyper in the city of Haarlem.

This is so interesting that on piece of writing done by a 15-year-old can cost so much. Although it is Anne Frank, it still is a cool inspiration

Castro reigned with an iron hand for nearly five decades, defying a US economic embargo intended to dislodge him. He remained committed to keeping Cuba a one-party, communist state after the fall of the Soviet Union, his chief sponsor during the years of mutual antagonism with the United States. At the height of the Cold War, Castro used a blend of charisma and repression to install the first and only communist government in the Western Hemisphere, less than 100 miles from the United States.
Castro was a very important man who accomplished may things. He is a big part of modern history and now that chapter has closed.

Melanie Escalante- shooting during Bayou Classic Weekend

While celebrating Bayou Classic Weekend in New Orleans, two men were continuing a heated arguement that led to a shootout. It was that Sunday in the French Quarter at the intersection of Iberville and Bourbon streets that their guns shot one person dead and injured nine others. Apparently the men did not have intentions of shooting anyone and are believed to be visitors. Police hold valuable information that could lead to a speedy identifications of the suspects.

These innocent people are now injured and one dead due to the selfish act of these two men. In my opinion, you should not drag your personal problems in public because things like this could happen. I can't imagine an arguement becoming so intense that you pull out a gun, better yet, shooting people who aren't even involved. It seems like almost every other day history repeats itself and there are shootings/acts of violence that take a toll on our communities. I pray that those injured can have a healthy recovery and the family and friends of the one who lost his life, can pick themselves up after such a loss. I hope the police officers find the suspects soon.

There was a probe sent to Mars a while ago and for the first time it has sent its first pictures back. This probe sent by Russia and Europe has been one of the few probes to have been able to send the pictures back. The also let a satellite in outer space that lets them calculate how far it is from other planets/stars.I think this is a big advancement in technology and in society.

This year the coral of the Great Barrier Reef was bathed in warm water, and bleached, weakening the once pristine reef. About two thirds of the coral has died. Some parts of the reef have a lower mortality rate because of a cyclone that lowered the temperature of the water in that area by about three Celsius. The federal government is giving 45million Australian dollars in the hope to improve water quality and reduce sediment runoff. The United Nations cam short on putting the reef on the endangered list, but recognized that global warming, water pollution, and costal development were all benefactors. In all, about 22% of the reef had died.

It's very sad to hear, because marine life is very important and the protection should be more prioritized. Not only is the reef dying, but the diversity of the animals is also dropping as the fish lose their habaitat.

Recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania?-Current Event Victoria Gonzalez

After the 2016 election results, the country has gone through major outbursts from both sides. For the Republican party (or at least Donald Trump supporters) were thrilled and overjoyed. For the Democrats and everyone else, however, they felt completely devastated especially since Hillary won in the popular vote by 2 million people. But even though the results are "done and finished", many people are attempting to do otherwise. Jill Stein has raised enough money to ask for a recount in the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin to which Wisconsin has already agreed to cooperate while the other two have not been decided. But despite the fact that it is in fact constitutionally possible for the recount to change who is in office, the possibility is slim that the recount would actually change and make Clinton our president in 2017. Mainly due to the fact that Wisconsin has a major impact on Trump's victory, and so many votes that went his way are hard to deny or prove to be incorrectly counted.  But after this election came to a close, majority of us have learned that anything can happen.

Aeva Ramirez, Bye Cash

In India, Prime Minister Modi has just made 84% of cash worthless. Modi stated that the 500 and 1,000 rupee notes were no longer legal tender (they were the two highest circulating bills). Citizens were unaware and never given a heads-up about these changes, so were not prepared. Modi set this plan in motion to lower crime and tax dodging. This did upset many working citizens who now have hard earned money that is basically worthless.

While I see were Modi was coming from and had good intentions behind this plan it is still unfair to his citizens. My first thought was "Why didn't he warn his citizens" and that he should have given an warning in advance, but I realized that if he did all of those crooked businesses he was trying to weed out would have had an advantage. It sucks that the good people get punished for problems made by others.

Miles Shickman 11/28

Let's be honest. Nobody ever really took the Green Party Candidate, Jill Stein, seriously during her campaign. However, now that that's over, she has started a movement to recount votes in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Even though a recount in these states will not change the results of the election, and certainly not in Jill's favor, she stands by it as a symbolic effort to show that voter fraud does occur occasionally. The last time an important recount took place was in the year 2000 in Florida. This was the one state that decided whether the next president would be George Bush or Al Gore. It was eventually settled in Bush's favor by only 537 votes. George Bush was another Republican president who lost the popular vote. This article was written not only to bring awareness to Jill's recount campaign, but also to bring light to what has been presented as a serious issue by president elect, Donald Trump: voter fraud. Only, in the opposite direction than he thought.

At Ohio State University there was an "accidental" crash into pedestrians, along with people getting stabbed by a knife. It turned out a man who a year ago was talking about how he was nervous to pray his religion in public because of all the judgements being made on Muslims was the one who ended up doing this act.  His name is Abdul Artan. Mr. Artan became in the influence of doing this act by the Islamic State. Luckily nobody died but 11 staff memebers, students, and faculty were affected by him and the university was on lock down for an hour and half trying to find him after one of the campus police officers shot him.
This is so crazy to me because he hated that people looked at him like he was a terrorist Muslim when he became one. I know all Muslims are obviously not terrorists because I have friends who are Muslim and they don't believe in hurting people. But it does worry me that if someone could go from not being okay with people who had the same religion as them and hurting people and then being okay with it and doing it it just really concerns me. What do you think about this situation?

Todd Kohlhepp now claimed a serial killer, Amy Mills

Todd Kohlhepp's murder count is now officially seven. In 2003, Kohlhepp killed four people near Chesnee, which he has confessed to. His other murders include those of Charlie Carver, Meagan Coxie and Johnny Coxie. Kala Brown, a 30 year old that was found in a metal container, was kidnapped by Kohlhepp, and Kala states that Kohlhepp killed Charlie Carver, Kala's boyfriend, in front of her. Kohlhepp also kidnapped a 14 year old girl when he was 15. He was arrested early November in South Carolina.

I think that it is amazing that officials found Kala Brown and have arrested Todd Kohlhepp for his grotesque and horrifying crimes. I am pleased that he is behind bars for most likely a long time (I haven't found how long his sentence will be).

"Chattanooga school bus crash: Driver has faced complaints"-Ellen Whitehead

Recently, a bus driver in Chattanooga was driving recklessly with about 37 elementary students on the bus. He ran into a tree that split the bus in half because of the speed. Sadly, six children died. This wasn't the first time that the driver, Johnthony Walker, had been a careless driver. The school has received lots of complaints from both the students, and the parents of the children. They have said that he has purposely tried to cause the students to fall out of their seats, hit their heads on the back of the seats, and that he has cursed at them. Walker claims that he has tried to reason with the children but they do not listen which causes them to perceive his driving as unsafe. However, even if that was the case, Walker was still driving carelessly and inconsiderately. My heart goes to the families of the children that suffered in this crash. I think it's terrible that an adult would choose to punish a student for being "disrespectful" by taking their life, accident or not.

Standing Rock Protesters Keep Fighting

November 28th, 2016
Olivia Martin

The Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota has been joined by hundred of others to protesters against the completion of the pipeline that is currently underway. They've been fighting for months, with people from all over the country joining them in what was supposed to be a peaceful protest, which isn't the case anymore. Authorities have been making arrests for trespassing on pipeline property and even recent violence, when a woman was severely wounded by a small explosion. On December 5th, the main campsite for the tribe and its demonstrators, and any trespassers will be arrested on the spot. The letter sent by the Army Corps of Engineers this past Friday devastated the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux people.

The nearly finished pipeline could cause major pollution in the area, particularly the Missouri River, being the tribe's main fresh water source. It's almost disrespectful that they were told their land would become private property so close to Thanksgiving, especially being a celebration of the exchange between Native Americans and the first pilgrims from Europe. I admire the tribe's courage and resilience as they continue to fight for their remaining land, and they haven't given up hope quite.

The zika virus - Natalie C.

Many scientist have proved that Texas is the second state to gain the zika virus.
In order to find a way to get rid of them we have to try it on people to see what kind of deceases the zika brings to us , and try to fund cures and a way to get rid of them without harming the environment. Its like back then around the time of Moises when people got punished for having slaves with rare insects they never knew and many of them died. So in order for Texas to be safe scientist may try it on people and see what happens from there

Jill Stein Potential President? Alex Travell

In the selection above, it talks about Jill Stein, and her efforts to get a recount of the ballots for presidentialal election. Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential nominee, has no evidence supporting the idea that the election was rigged, but she continues to try to get a recount.

To me, this resembles hope. I personally do not want Trump to be in charge of our country, for I am afraid of what he could do. It'd be interesting to see what Jill Stein would come up with. All I am saying, is that maybe this is a blessing in disguise (if Stein were to become president).

Mica Stout | Trumps failure at beginning his presidency

According to an article published the morning of November 28, 2016, President Donald Trump is taking "classes" on how to lead the country in which we live in. He wants to learn how to be president by listening to former president Barack Obama, and showing that he's willing to learn. During a discussion he had with The New York Times, Trump was asked about issues like immigration, health-care coverage, climate change etc., but had no idea what he was saying when he answered.

From recent debates he took place in, Donald Trump isn't fit for presidency if he has to take classes from it. Even though there is a system of checks and balances to keep the nation from falling apart, he  really can't be trusted with so much power.

Kate Boyer - How much longer will the Great Barrier Reef be around?

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is dying. The CO2 levels emitted into the air are causing water temperatures to increase which results in the bleaching of reefs. In 2016 alone, the temperature of the water has gone up 1° Celsius. Because of the steady climate change and rise in water temperature, scientists fear that the coral will not be able to recover. After the disappearance of zooxanthellae, a species of algae, the Great Barrier Reef has lost it's main way of producing food. This strand of algae experiences photosynthesis to undergo this process.

This is really important to me because I'm a child of the sea and saw coral in the Caribbean Sea that had lost its color.  The Great Barrier Reef has been around for over 500,000 years and has been a source of food for not only other animals but for humans as well, providing lots of fish. Therefore the deterioration of the reef will be a big chapter in our worlds history.  Coral all around the world has been dying for hundreds of years. With every bleached branch of the beautiful sea life, no matter how famous, causes great distress among the world population.

On Friday night, a car crash on interstate 30 in Texarkana happened. The car was flipped over and the 8 month old toddler in it was ejected out. The toddler landed about 25 feet away from the scene and ended up in a storm drain. But don't worry, it was fine. There were only "a scratch on her forehead." Thousands of people were sent to the hospital in Melbourne and other parts of Victoria in Australia last monday due to a freak illness known as thunderstorm asthma. The illness has now killed six people in Australia and three are in intensive care. Thunderstorm asthma occurs when a storm hits and their are high levels of pollen and humidity. This causes the grains to break up and disperse into peoples lungs making it very difficult for them to breathe. The disease is most commonly brought on by grass pollen but it can also come from excessive levels of tree pollen and fungal spores in the atmosphere. In Australia, an extra 60 ambulances have been deployed and the emergency phone lines are overflowing with calls, about one every four to five seconds.

This disease needs to be stopped and cured as soon as possible. It is good that Australia is on top of the cases and taking good care of those affected however the faster thunderstorm asthma can be terminated the less people will be hurt by it. I am so sorry for those who lost their lives due to this terrible illness but curing it and helping those who need it will be an advancement for medicine all over the world.

Current Events- Fidel Castro’s Death
The former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, died Friday, and Cubans are rejoicing at the freedom that is coming their way. This man caused so much pain and suffering in their lives that the people in Little Havana in Florida gathered in the streets and they chanted, sang, danced and took videos of this historic moment. All of the people that were exiled to Florida are rejoicing, but back in Cuba mostly everyone is staying inside because you can’t really speak out in Cuba without getting in trouble.
Everyone isn’t partying about his death, but that this may mean that Cuba will be free someday. This is very exciting news to me because I have seen all the struggles that Cuban citizens have had to go through to make lives for themselves. I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in a place like Cuba where you can be harshly punished for speaking your mind, and defending your opinions. We are all so lucky to be in a safe place at a school that gives us freedom to express ourselves as artists, and as people.

Tropical Storm Otto - Lauren Rothert

Tropical Storm Otto has a rising death toll, right now the death toll is sitting at 13 people. 6000 people have been forced into shelters in the communities of Bagaces and Upala. 10143 people were evacuated from Nicaragua, but the vice president stated that there were only 597 people in the shelter. The category 2 storm has winds of 110 mph and it is moving west at 9 mph. As of now, it is over the pacific ocean and it is expected to die down as it moves to the west-southwest.

I can not believe that 12 people have already been taken by this storm. Thankfully, Otto is expected to weaken, but things change quickly. I hope with advanced technology we will be able to track this storm very carefully to prevent the death toll from rising. The residents of the impacted communities are soon to experience flooding and landslides. This is a life-threatening situation, and I hope all of the citizens in the area have evacuated in order to stay safe.

Hurricane Otto- Hannah Niara

This past weekend the Tropical Storm Otto, which is one down from a hurricane began to rise. With winds of 110 miles per hour, moving west towards San Juan de Nicaragua. This storm killed about 9 people in Costa Rica, and forced over 5,000 people into shelters. In Panama, Otto killed about 5 people, and caused one person to be missing. The vice president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, told the news that over 10,000 families had been removed out of houses in about 70 different communities. Only 600 people stayed in their shelters. According to past hurricane history, Otto is the first hurricane to hit Nicaragua since Hurricane Ida in 2009. I know that there is noting I can do to stop things like this from happening, because they are natural disasters, but I hope that those who had family who were harmed or killed by this hurricane, find peace and a better place to live.

Grace Biltz - Week 13 Post

Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl who lived in the 1940's in Europe. She and her family hid in a "secret annex" in a house in the Netherlands to escape the Nazis. While in hiding, she wrote daily in her diary about her life in hiding, her feelings and thoughts. She and her family were in hiding for two years until they were discovered. Anne Frank eventually died of typhus in a concentration camp in 1945.
Later, her diary was found and published. It became famous worldwide. It isn't surprising that a poem written by her would smash the auction estimate. The poem was written to her friend "Cri-Cri" and sold for 140,000 euros ($148,00) which was four to five times what was expected. It was sold to a private buyer whose name was not disclosed.

I think that this poem should have been put in a museum for everybody to see. In the article, there was no reason stated why the poem should be sold to an individual. I do not think that this poem should have been sold to a person. I do not believe this was the right choice. Also, if put in a museum, there would most likely be higher security and protection.

Recently America has elected their next president. However, there was a lot of controversies as many noticed that Clinton had actually won the popular vote. Some believed that he won by an electoral landslide on the electoral votes, so it was alright. Counting up the votes from the electoral collage actually proved false: Trump had won at 306 votes while Clinton had 232. This particular page said that the "margin in the Electoral College isn't all that high" so they claimed it false.

I DID believe the page was somewhat biased against Trump, but the facts were well written and composed. I wrote on this because I always believed that the people should choose the person to govern the country. Plus, it's not to say that he will be a HORRIBLE president but many believed that the electoral collage was invented to keep someone like him out of office.

Super Moon - Mila Fisher

The supermoon this year is the brightest in almost 70 years. NASA reports say that this will be a record supermoon. The last supermoon that sailed this close to earth was on Jan. 26, 1948, when it came 30 miles closer. The next supermoon to come that close will be on Nov. 24, 2034, where it will be 40 miles closer. "Supermoon" is a non technical term for the event when a moon turns full at the same time it travels closest to earth.
A moon like this is a beautiful example of science and the universe. The fact that this event has been happening for millions of years before we've been alive, is fascinating, and it will continue to happen long after we're gone. It puts into perspective how short we've been on this earth, and how small the things we perceive as huge problems are.

Trump Protest in New York and New Jersey universities. This protest was an act to show how displeased the American citizens were with his immigration plans. There were even protests online with the slogan as "not my president". In San Diego high school students also marched out in protest. With their chant being "Up, up with education, down, down with deportation". Yale they held a rally, as well as Portland and many more. These were all walk outs to protest against Immigration plans.

Honestly when Donald Drumpf was elected, it sort of set us all back. Not because he changed anything but simply because of his win after everything he said he would do. A lot of people protested in history for equality, and now a bunch of them want to tear that down.

Obama teaching Donald

Donald Trump as elected president last week. Everyone know he isn't suitable to be president and Obama agrees. He claims "Be isn't suitable" and etc. Barack Obama has created a full tutorial for Donald when he takes over office. That is petty, funny and needed! More information in the link below .

My current event about Donald Trump won the election. Which people are very upset about. How it turn into violence and other things that were happening. That people were terrified about what he was saying or what he was going to do when he is in the office. I feel like you shouldn't be scared. We should just love each other and HOPE for the best.

                                                 Obama Signs Executive

Obama set a recount for Hilary Clinton set to be planned on December 14. He has declared    an ivestigation into Election results. He signed an Excutive Order. He signed Excutive Order, 13805 stating a full recount of all votes casted in the election, and calls for a special election to be held. "People all over the country have been flooding my office with calls, telling my staff of horrors stories about being harrassed and intimidated by poll workers," Obama told reporters.

This honestly is so surprising. This really has warmed my heart in so many ways, and I am hoping that Donald Trump gets what he deserves in this upcoming rape trial. I think you should think of it of as, What if you had a teenage daughter? How would you feel if some old man raped your daughter? You would want them to get what they deserved right? So you should want him to get what he deserves.

Religion might change :
Religion is one of the reasons america has been fighting. The fighting has stopped for a while now , but now that Donald trump has won for presidency , many people are scared to have wars. Back then when Jesus and Moises and all of them were alive they had fights against Romans and Egyptians , because of their religion. Its like america has always had an issue with religion. Back then people would judge others and discriminate them because  of their religion , ether the belief of one good or many goods. So now people have spotted the kkk in some places , that are starting to kill people bc of their religion. Who knows if our religion is going to change or no.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called to "congratulate" Trump after his win in the presidency. While on the call they talked about many subjects, such as the historical details on the US-Russian relationship. They also talked about threats that were said and economic issues. As well as those issues they also talked about normalizing the two countries and joining together to fight against terrorism.
After hearing first of all that Putin called Trump and was talking to him and congratulating him it kind of freaked me out to be honest. Also hearing that Russia could become closer allies with us it was very odd to me. I'm not really sure how I feel about this phone call. How do you feel about it?

Elle Holland Current Event #11

This monday, a series of very powerful earthquakes hit the South Island of New Zealand triggering a tsunami and sending several aftershocks across the country. Two people have been reported dead and the damage will cost the country billions. The first event of the quake had a 7.8 magnitude and struck just after midnight in the community of Kaikoura and triggered waves that were 8 feet higher than the regular tide levels. But this was not the end, later that day an aftershock of 6.2 magnitude hit southwest of Kaikoura and it was numbered that 42 events followed the initial quake causing distress and destruction all over the country.

I wish New Zealand much luck and will keep them in my prayers in the process of rebuilding. The whole world needs a better way to plan for and better survive through natural disasters like this one in order to cause everyone less emotional distress and to save money on fixing everything that has been lost and broken.

Josie Guthrey- New Zealand Penguin Tunnel

Recently in Omaru Harbor, water and power lines were moved to make way for a new project; a tunnel for penguins! This underground passkey allows the birds to pass by without any collisions with cars.
The problem with the penguin passings have been happening since the 1990s in Omaru. They tried to re-route the penguins, but they were too stubborn. Finally, they decided the best choice was to make them their own path. They built the tunnel and added lights to guide them. They also added a camera to monitor their travels.

Trump tells supporters to stop harassment- Valerie Garcia

Since the election and Trump winning it there has been many harassment cases. Minorities have been getting harassed by Trump supporters. People have been sexually assaulting women, writing racist slogans, and chanted degrading messages. In a 60minutes  interview they brought this up to Trump and he says "i am so saddened to hear that," he also says he's only seen one or two instances. But over all he wants them to "stop it."
This is an important issue because we as America is splitting apart. We are moving backwards rather than moving forwards and i think this is affecting the under aged kids in the world the most. These harassment are happening mostly at schools. I think it's good that Trump is not supporting this at least he's not on  tv. I also think he had no passion when he told them to "stop it," and i think he is naive to what is happening.

Current Events: ISIS Suicide Bomber
On November 12th, fifty two people were killed at a religious shrine in remote mountains in Pakistan.  ISIS has taken the blame for this attack through its media platform, Amaq. About 500 people gathered to perform a Sufi ritual at the Shah Noorani shrine 120 miles outside of Karachi. So many people died because the location was very far away from any cities, so it was difficult for any sort of aid to get there quickly.

Every single week in the news you see more and more stories about how ISIS is terrorizing people. So many people have died from ISIS attacks and there isn’t much that can be done about it. Terrorism is a very scary thing to have to deal with, and I feel so bad for the people who have to deal with it firsthand. Children are having to grow up in fear, and they have to brace themselves even when they are just walking down the street. People shouldn’t have to live constantly fearing for their lives so I hope that one day world leaders will figure out a way to take ISIS down.

On Monday night, the biggest supermoon since 1948 will be visible. A "supermoon" occurs when the moon is full during the same day as its perigee. Supermoons usually appear bigger and brighter than other moons. I'm a photographer, so I am very excited to be able to capture the beauty of tthe supermoon. Our sky is truly beautiful, and we are very lucky to be able to simply look up and see a variety of stars ( and other beautiful things!). I hope to tell as many people as I can about this moon, for not very many people care about nature's beauty. Also, this moon will not only be a supermoon, but it will also be a blood moon!

This is a very sad thing to hear especially after all the shootings of police officers and other authorities in the past. This as we know happened in Dallas over the summer and was very heartbreaking for us as a city. I don't know why people continue to shoot people who are just trying to help us and it is very upsetting to read about.

Recently, soon to be president Donald Trump gave a message to his racist supporters.. "stop it."

Trump Urges Supporters to Stop Hate Crimes Against Minorities- Current Event Blog Victoria Gonzalez

Only five days since Donald Trump has been announced president elect to the entire country, the country seemed to immediately split in two. Protests continue to progress and elevate-both peaceful and violent- for the last five days all over the country. Meanwhile, graffiti has been placed in public places such as schools telling latinos to "Go back to Mexico" and calling Muslims "terrorists". Both millennials and adults are growing into hostile and decisive behavior against the opposing party, some protests grow violent and dangerous as a civilian was shot in a protest in Oregon, and as Hispanics in schools and public places are constantly being asked when they will be "deported". But recently in a 60 minutes interview with Donald Trump, when he was told that Latinos and Muslims were facing harassment he said, "I am so saddened to hear that, and I say, 'Stop it.' If it -- if it helps, I will say this, and I will say right to the cameras: 'Stop it.'" But despite his efforts to unite the country as one, many Hillary supporters and some Republicans are still stubborn to accept this man as their future president.
Personally, I don't know if his racist remarks and lewd comments were a reflection of who he really is or was a tactic to receive the most votes. But I believe that despite whatever reason he said these things, they are inexcusable and embarrassing. Personally, he will have to go above and beyond and progress our country more than any president in our history for me to accept him as my president.

Mica Stout | Protests

As a result of Donald Trump winning the election, people all around the US have started protesting. On November 12 & 13, people continued their protesting, and it got a little out of hand in Los Angeles Friday night. Friday November 11,2016 1,000 people took to the streets of Los Angeles and 187 people were arrested with 8 juveniles. Sunday marks the fifth day of protests since Trump has won, and people hugely disagree with his policies on the community. People are angry/scared about their LGBTQ rights, Trump's immigration policies, and how Trump won the electoral colleges vote not popular vote, like Clinton.

This article was probably written to people who are also against Trump. It will help people understand just why many other people are so upset with the turnout of this election. I personally don't follow politics like crazy, but I can kind of understand why all these people feel the way they do about this man who hasn't really given himself a great overall impression.

Migrant Crisis- Hannah Niara

Many other countries have very harsh rules and laws which make most citizens not want to live there anymore. This past Saturday over 800 people tried to migrate from there homes, across the Mediterranean Sea. There were a ton of boats out at Sea at once. Many people in organizations who were apart of the rescue groups said that more than 6 wooden boats full of people were rescued and brought to land. Out of all these people 797 were rescued included 202 women and 22 children. In the process many people also did not make it across the sea. Over 1,400 people died for different reasons, some couldn't survive being on sea for that many days, and others drowned in the process of trying to cross the sea. I feel really sorry for everyone who has to live in places that have the type of laws no one can live by. I am very glad that those who tried to cross and may have been harmed a little were rescued and taken to other places. I hope that other people in other places who are unfortunately dealing with the same thing can escape from those places and be safe.

Conjoined Twins Separated - Lauren Rothert

An operation to separate conjoined twins was led by Dr. James Goodrich at Children's Hospital in the Bronx. The twins surgery, known as craniopugus surgery, was 27 hours long and successful. The surgery is very rare and it has only been done 59 times since 1952. One of the twins suffered partial paralysis on his left side, but he has regained full functionality. The other twin has suffered from seizures, but is on medication to control the seizures. Jadon and Anias McDonald are doing great.

I believe a surgery like this one is revolutionary. It shows that our medical technology is advancing, and the future of medicine is bright. Stories like this one make me wonder how the twins became conjoined. I look forward to the development of medicine and surgeries.

Analysis: Now when it comes to politics, I'm not much of a fan. There hasn't been such a big social media war as big as the one after the election. Recently, many different kinds of people have been planning to protest against trump for inauguration day. This makes me feel mixed emotions, because I've always been surrounded by positive people and i thought that we could've gotten past this election without so much grief. I've never been woken up for an election and watching my friends and family show grief really puts me down. I hope we have a peaceful protest, because seeing the last couple of protests, the police usually have to end up shooting. Even though I'm not a huge fan of trump, I hope everyone is okay, because not many have been able to look past status, race, and class.

Summary: Yesterday Fox News released an announcement that citizens are planning a peaceful "Anti-Trump" protest. This protest is planned for Inauguration Day with the police expecting thousands of protesters. This news has spread all over social media, especially Facebook. Moreover this protest was made by the group ANSWER with already more than 7,000 peoples support and commitment. The group is looking forward to "Stop War and End Racism."

Melanie Escalante- Arrested and accused of trying to Join ISIS

Aaron Travis Daniels [Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusuf] , a 20 year old man from Ohio, was arrested on November 7th due to the fact that he sent $250 in January to an ISIS representative and confirmed violent overseas jihad. He was arrested at an airport in Columbus before flying to Libya where he would've made his commitment to ISIS officially. Investigators believe that he kept his actions to himself, therefore no one else was involved. This man could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted after his bond hearing schedule.

I don't understand how he sent the money in January but it's barely being uncovered now. I know it takes time and they've probably been tracking his activity since but it still seems so crazy. It's scary to think that he, and possibly others, pretend to be someone they aren't and turn against us. Whatever happens, I hope the fair choice is made.

Grace Biltz - Week 12 Post

Can a dead man win an election? Well, it happened in Oceanside, California. Gary Ernst was elected city treasurer even though he died in 68 days efore the election. His opponent, Nadine Scott, has publically said that she does not agree with the results and feels she should be appointed to the position. Scott lost the election by a vote of 17,659 votes to 15,500 votes.
Jerry Kern, a popular councilman, told voters to choose Ernst so that he could then hand-pick a successor. Kern wants to put a a fellow Republican in the position.
Ernst was kept on the ballot since he died so close to the election and Oceanside decided that the ballot shall remain unchanged. Scott is filing a formal complaint with the California Fair Political Practices Commision.

I do not believe that a dead man should be allowed to be elected since they can't take that position and are no longer living. The laws should be changed so this doesn't happen again. I also think that people voted for Gary Ernst because he was a man. In my opinion, Nadine Scott wasn't elected because she is a woman and some people think that men can do a better job.

Azusa Polling Station shooting- Jade Pierre

Today there was an open fire shooting in a residential area of Azusa. In result of this shooting one person was injured and two others are left in critical condition. The shooter was armed with military-style rifle, and the police announced that the shooter was found dead in the residence. Authorities had to secure the neighborhood and many voters scrabbling to other safe locations. The police are still trying to figure out if the shooter died from a self inflicted gun shot or a shot from the police. The shoot is believed to not be related to the polling place so the motive is very unclear.

The fact that people feel like they should shoot people for no reason is ridiculous. We live in a time where shootings are normal in public places like schools, clubs, offices, and even gas stations. It is sad to hear that every day the number of open fire shootings is increasing... each generally getting worse than the others( like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the Orlando night club shooting.)

Time Change Health Risks by Victoria Valdez

The time has once again changed.  We may have gained an extra hour of sleep but we also gained an extra hour of darkness.  Research has shown that time change increases the rate of depression by 11%.  The time changes have also been related to increased heart attacks.  Although these medical situations have shown to rise during time changes, it appears that these health risks dissapate within 10 weeks after the time has changed.

Time change is hard on everybody.  We may have gotten an "extra" hour of sleep on that one day but the lasting effects on the body take a toll because of the time shift.  It seems the negatives really outweigh the positives.

This Monday scientists reported in a possible cure of the Zika virus epidemic. The medicine is made to activate the antibodies to fight the virus. All though not fully tested on humans, the cure has already been tested successful on mice. It's not complete yet an takes a few days to actually kick in, but it's the first steps to getting rid of the affects of Zika.

This  seems to be a great breakthrough.  I'm quite happy to hear this as many people have feared that the children will be born deformed because of the Zika virus. Now that there's a cure for zika, that sort of perpetual fear of mosquitoes can leave our minds,  especially in affected areas.

"FBI Destroys Doors & Windows In Wrong-House Raid - And Then Refuses To Pay For Damages"-Ellen Whitehead

At a Florida family's home, the FBI claimed that they had a warrant to search the Capp's house and Mrs. Capp did not have a problem letting them in knowing that her and her family were not involved in whatever crime they were looking for. However, the team completely destroyed their house to find nothing and arrest the man in the house next door, the next morning. The FBI and TV station reporting the investigation refused to pay for damages they caused in the Capp's home. The team finally agreed to pay for damages after the idea was addressed by a social site. I feel that the FBI should have paid for damages immediately because they were wrong and had the wrong house so they had no right to destroy their house for no reason.

Candidate Views For Space Exploration

November 7th, 2016
Olivia Martin

Political views on plans for space exploration aren't a heavy weighing factor for voting. Earth sciences have become a more political matter in the past few years, primarily because of the issue of climate change within our country. Republican officials in the Senate have been trying to move NASA's studies away from the Earth, which relates directly to their doubt of climate change, unlike the Democratic party.

These Earth-study programs help us better understand the causes of melting ice, altering ocean chemistry, and the warming atmosphere. It's clearly not the most important factor when it comes to electing leaders, but they do need to have some sort of knowledge about space exploration and programs in the future.

Right now, New Dehli is the most polluted city in the entire world. At the moment, fresh air doesn't even exist there. A few parts of the city report smog levels that are almost five times worse than those considered "unhealthy" by the US Environmental Protection Agency.  Research released earlier in the year says that the level of air quality exceeds World Health Organizations guidelines for 80%of those living in urban areas. On sunday, hundreds of people gathered and protested, posting on twitter using the slogan #MyRightToBreathe. the weekend saw the closing of over 5,000 schools and all construction work put on pause for the next three days.

I think it is important for the entire world to start trying to make better choices in order to help the environment as a whole and preserve our world for many ears to come. However at the rate we are going right now, I doubt we will lat more than a few more generations which is not very long at all. This is important to history because it shows how much we have not been focusing on pollution and the harm we are doing to the world around us.

As we all know the election for a new president is tomorrow. So as Obama ended his last speech tonight as president he talked about how people didn't really trust him in the beginning, but he has accomplished a lot and he is very sad that his second term is ending. Obama also believes in supporting Clinton in this race and tonight he proved that. By attending Clintons election-eve appearance in New Hampshire.

A Foot Away from the Finish Line- Current Event Victoria Gonzalez

The 2016 Election is at its peak, on the eve of the election night for our president the country has never been more impatient. But even though the election night is tomorrow, both candidates are still trying to make one last impression while a foot away from the finish line. Despite the fact that this election seems to be set in stone from what both candidates have done/said the last year, tonight is still a chance for them to make an impact.
To add the cherry on top, Clinton along with President Obama made a final speech in efforts to attract voters at the Independence Hall this evening. President Obama claimed during this rally that Clinton is "smart, who is steady and who is tested,". Meanwhile, Trump has claimed Clinton as "the face of failure" and is trying to bring attention to her failures as secretary of state. But despite all of this, the time is now for all who can vote to take action and decide what country they want to live in. It may not seem like that big of a deal but we need to make a decision about what the consequences-good and bad- are for either candidate if they have the fate of the country in their hands.

Clinton Will Win by Alex Travell

After months and months of constant bickering between clinton and trump, many have finally started to see who the posible candidate really is. Sure, she had some trouble with the emails, and she lies here and there, but when compared to the immature baby she is up against, it's obvious she will win (most likely). Even Obama is rooting for Clinton. I just think it's about time Clinton trumps Trump.

Summary

On sunday, Silvana Tatum, age 35, was arrested for beating her 10 year old daughter after she beat her with a  metal dustpan for not cleaning the kitchen. The daughters father came on Saturday to pick his daughter up, and noticed bruises all on her body. The father showed police his text messages with the mother which said " I've slapped [the child] before and left my handprint on her back. Are you gonna keep [the child] from now on?"

Analysis

I believe that this is a horrible action, especially to your own daughter. She beat her with metal which is just disgusting. I really hope that she serves a good long sentence for the abuse of her daughter.

Amy Mills, Body found on property of S.C. murder suspect

Investigators have found yet another body on a kidnapping-murder case in Woodruff, South Carolina. One body was found on Sunday, and another was found on Monday on the property of Todd Kohlhepp, a pilot, real estate broker, and convicted sex offender. Kohlhepp (45) has been arrested and charged for kidnapping 30-year old Kala Brown (found chained inside a storage building on Kohlhepp's property), and also charged  with four counts of murder in the quadruple murders in 2003 (Kohlhepp confessed to those murders), as well as abducting a 14 year old when he was only 15. Kohlhepp was told he could face the death penalty.

The final elections are tomorrow and everyone is very very scared and just don't know what is going to happen either way were not going to get a good president this year but you honestly never know until it actually happens and until everything happens.
My honest opinion about the two is that i don't know how i came to be Hilary and trump and Bernie chance just flew out the window but trump would probably throw the economy into the gutter plus he's like super sexist and racist and we really don't need the kind off hate right now. Hilary also wouldn't be great because of her emails and avoiding some important questions that could help the country  but it would be interesting to see the first women president which i have always wanted to see and how good or bad things get.

But we'll wait and see i guesss

Killing a skunk can get you arrested?!

Sure a skunk problem in Illinois could easily be solved with some prison or a gun, but in the city, that's not the case.

A university student named Andrew baldini beat a skunk to death with a shovel on October
He claimed that in his sorority house he's been having skunk problems, the police charged him with animal cruelty.

Him and his friends said they were playing basketball bal when they saw a skunk and beat it with a shovel, injured and limping the skunk walked and they found them themselves in the city.

I think that anywhere killing an animal for no reason should be illegal but there may be cases where it's self defense but it seems the animal was just minding its own business.

Aeva Ramirez, FBI raid

In Florida a SWAT team raided the wrong house and then decided not to pay for the damages. The house belonged to a Mr. and Mrs. Capps and their seven year old son. The Team busted down and smashed all the doors and windows and said they would send someone over to board them up. The FBI later said they would pay for the damages after the heat received from the news and in the end they arrested the man next door.

I think its crazy that the FBI wouldn't pay for their damage and when they do it's only because of the backlash from the media and the public. At least now the family can live in a normal house now that the FBI is paying for damages.

New Delhi Pollution - Lauren Rothert

As of today, New Delhi is the most polluted city on Earth. On November 6th, New Delhi is choking in smog. The Air Quality Index at 999 is way off the hazardous level of 500. Face masks, or anti pollutant masks, were being distributed to citizens to protect them from the toxic smog. People of New Delhi began to protest outside Parliament. Over 5,000 school have been closed and construction work has been stopped momentarily.

I believe that a situation like this one is awful. No one should have to fear breathing their everyday air because it is toxic. I think the number of cars allowed on streets should be restricted so the amount of pollution in the air has the opportunity to decrease slightly. Hopefully, the city of New Delhi remains safe, and there are no casualties due to the toxic air.

Obama's Last Moments as President

In less than six hours Barack Obama will no longer be president. Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be taking over office. In my opinion I say forget the constitution and let Obama run a 3rd term  until a suitable, reliable, trustworthy president candidate comes along. I don't trust Clinton nor Trump to ruler a this country or any country!

Egg Rock by Juliet Stowe

Last week "Curiosity", a NASA Mars Rover, discovered a golf ball sized rock that look out of place amoung the red-orange sand covering most of Mars. The rock was small and dense, and look like silver, obviously striking the astronauts with curiosity. A team took the rock aboard, analyzing it with "ChemCam", as the scientist referred to the stone as "Egg Rock". Data results reveal that it is a iron-nickel meteor, that is foreign to Mars. Further results confirm that it was indeed once the center of a molten hot asteroid.

This has relevance because NASA could learn tons more about foreign space object by looking at this meteor. With more knowlage of space piling up every day, we can deduce all sorts of new things. For example, if we were to discover more of these meteor we could learn more about asteroids. New satalites could be built more durable to withstand meteor showers, and new advances could be made.

Children Age You by Juliet Stowe

I'm a recent study, scientist may have found some truth to they saying "children age you". In the study, women gave blood samples and it was found that those who had given birth appeared genetically "older".  Researchers look at the material in their cells, specifically telomeres. You can tell how old someone is by looking at the length of their telemores, the older the person is, the shorter the tail is. It was discovered that after childbirth the tail on ones telomores tends to shorten quicker.

This is relevant because, it's a new discovery about the human body. The world of medicine could be greatly impacted because of this discovery. Also, with this fact made known, it could affect how many people see child birth, therefore effecting birth rates.

Junk Yard Power Grid by Juliet Stowe

Planet Earth, for the first time, now has its own Super Battery made entirely from junk metal. The Super battery is made entirely of junk metal, brass, and copper, some of the most common (and most discarded) metals today. This battery is able to function at room temperature, by converting brass and steal into electrodes able to be used for energy. Almost any kind of metal, despite purity, or size, can be used as working parts in the battery. This even includes small impure scraps of metal such at screws or jewelry.

This is important today because with our sources of energy dwindling, we need every last bit of energy we can. Not to mention that since the battery is rechargeable it can be used for long lasting periods of time. Solar and Wind power are great, but if we are going to keep advancing out tech, we will need all the help we can get. These sort of batteries could maybe end up being a main source of energy in generations to come.

A New Threat to Bees Worldwide

A new study published in the Nature journal Scientific Reports studied a new virus named Moku.  This virus is carries by a wasp and could bring the virus to honey bees.  These bees are important to our food systems because they pollinate crops.   How would the ecology of our World change if viruses begin to invade the pollinators?
I think this article is interesting because we always hear about viruses invading and killing humans but not always other species.  It would be really bad if the pollinators were killed off because it would change the amount of food crops we could produce and effect humans in a negative way.  It will be interesting how scientist try to handle this dilemma going forward.

Beijing interferes with Hong Kong politics By Jules stowe

Beijing officials recently interpreted a portion of Hong Long law, in a way it was not intended to mean. What use to mean something entirely different now means that anyone who does not take the oath can not serve in office. This act followed weeks of brutal debates in the Hong Kong Lesgistrature. Several protests took place in an effort to revoke the newer ruling that Beijing has created. In the uproar this event has caused, people urge Hong Kong to sever ties witg China entirely.

This is important today because China is going to be one of the leaders in economic and technological advances one day, and it would be very helpful to keep track of the current event taking place there. Furthermore, if China and Hong King were to shun each other it would mean possibly hostile feelings  amongst the two areas. Both of these greatly impact the modern world, and are nessisary to keep up with.

Regretting to vote: Natalie Carvajal

Many people regret doing there votes now and days,  specially now that the final votes to see who is president is coming up. Also,  many people have noticed how both of our candidates are fighting,  specially Donald Trump. Donald Trump wants to bring back many jobs,  that broke laws,  mean while many people say that Hilary Clinton has no good reputation for honesty. All that human society wants is peace and a good president.  Honestly I don't know how is the US going to survive.

Carlos Alberto Dies at 72- Hannah Niara

This past Tuesday October 25, 2016, Carlos Alberto past away at 72 years old. Alberto was a famous "footballer", or what we know to be "soccer." Alberto was the Captain of  the Brazilian team from the early 1970's to 1982  . He was one of the best defenders of his time, and was also one of the first to attack an opponent's ball, while defending his at the same time. These types of plays is what got his team the 4-1 win in the 1970 World Cup. So many people looked up to Carlos Alberto from fans to teammates, and even coaches. One of his coaches commented "He was more than a leader, he was an innovative player; that is why he is our eternal captain." Although I am not a huge fan of soccer, I have watched videos of Carlos Alberto playing the game of football, and I think that he is an amazing player. I hope that people who he has influenced get to make an impact on others just the way he did.

Shooting (Not ISIS) In Downtown Oakland - Caleb Gutierrez

8 people were injured in a shooting in downtown Oakland early Saturday, police said.
Police officers responded to the gunfire on the 400 block of 14th Street near Broadway just after midnight, according to a statement from the Oakland Police Department. A large crowd had gathered on the street outside a business when a large argument took place, authorities said. Police who were in the area on a separate call heard the gunshots and responded to the scene. It was between two men, 21 and 28 years old. Both suffered from gun shot wounds and are in stable condition.

This is scary because, again, more guns in heavily populated area. What if they would've missed and hit civilians? They would've been in more trouble than they are in right now. DANGEROUS!

Kate Boyer-66 yo man competes in the Vendee Globe "Everest of the Seas"

The Vendee Globe is a sailing race that spans the whole world, each competitor must complete the voyage on a 60 foot s/v(sailing vessel) alone. The 2016 competition begins in 7 hours as of now, Sunday, November 6, 2016, 1:17 p.m. This race is extremely dangerous and has caused 3 deaths and many life-threatening experiences since the first race in 1989. 66 year old Rich Wilson will be competing this year; he will hold the title as the oldest skipper to ever attempt the race. This is not, however, the first time competing in the race. He has already completed the race once and is now going back to attempt beating the world record of 78 days. In his first attempt, he broke two ribs withing the first week. He never dropped out of the race. Instead, he slept over the chart table and waited for the gale(fancy sailing word for storm) to pass and proceeded to sail across the Indian Ocean.
As a sailor, I am fascinated by this article. I lived on a boat when the last competition took place in 2012-2013. The longest overnight sailing passage I've ever gone was 11 days from Virginia to the British Virgin Islands. I was with my parents and 2 sisters and we were the only ones aboard. I remember it being a huge struggle between both of my parents trading shifts (our autopilot broke down) so I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for the sailors.

Current Event: Arctic Sea Ice Disappears
In this video, NASA put together a time lapse where you can watch the decrease of the Arctic’s perennial ice. Perennial ice survives the summer melt season, is at least 4 years old, and can grow up to 4 meters thick. In March of 1984 there was 2.1 million square kilometers of perennial ice, but as of March 2016 there are only 211,000 square kilometers left.

This is very concerning news, because it seems that someday soon the Arctic will be completely melted, and water levels will rise significantly. There has been a very significant decrease in the ice that is supposed to survive melting season, so if the Arctic melts one day, where will Santa come from, and what will parents tell their children in the future? Where will the polar bears go? Hopefully something can be done to help fix global warming to help prevent the Arctic from melting.
