Current Event: Arctic
Sea Ice Disappears
In this
video, NASA put together a time lapse where you can watch the decrease of the Arctic’s
perennial ice. Perennial ice survives the summer melt season, is at least 4
years old, and can grow up to 4 meters thick. In March of 1984 there was 2.1
million square kilometers of perennial ice, but as of March 2016 there are only
211,000 square kilometers left.
This is
very concerning news, because it seems that someday soon the Arctic will be completely
melted, and water levels will rise significantly. There has been a very
significant decrease in the ice that is supposed to survive melting season, so
if the Arctic melts one day, where will Santa come from, and what will parents
tell their children in the future? Where will the polar bears go? Hopefully
something can be done to help fix global warming to help prevent the Arctic
from melting.

This is sad. All the animals that live there are going to lose their homes.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we need to do something to stop global warming. Sea levels will rise and the result will not be good.
