5/1/17 Sea Lion Drowns Kid - Theresa Dvorocsik

Some tourists in British Columbia got a bit of a scare when a sea lion grabbed a little girl and dragged her into the water. Michael Fujiwara was sitting on a dock at the Steveston Fisherman's Wharf in Richmond, British Columbia on Saturday when the California sea lion popped its head out of the water.
This is a very scary incident. Sometimes there is nothing to do, but there should have been better controlled and watch over the animals so the humans could not be injured.

Space Mining - Mila Fisher

Recently ideas of mining resources from space have been explored by many countries. The resources are mainly water and oil, as water could be broken down into hydrogen to fuel spaceships, and into oxygen, or to just use as water for it's usual purposes. Oil can be used to power most of our large transportation and factories. Resources like these are slowly but steadily running out, and we are going to need to replenish out supply if we want the world to continue the way it's going.

“Within next five years,” James said, “mining and energy companies will start thinking about space mining before the shareholders start asking, ‘What is your strategy?’ And they answer, ‘Oh, we don’t have one.’ ”

The fact that we even have to think about this is a little scary. It shows how much natural resources we are using up at a rapid rate. Our world is headed toward something, that's for sure, but whether it's utopia or ruin, who knows. I guess that's up to the humans who live on it.

Melanie Escalante- Bullying teachers

At Washington elementary school, a young girl was bullied by her classmates and her teachers. In this case, the teachers were the bullies and encouraged other students to do the same. The first teacher, Ann Marie Shelvin threatened to fail the other students if they didn't fight her (which they did because they were scared)  and proceeded by telling the 11 year old girl to kill herself. After the mother complained to the officials, the teacher was removed. However, the replacement teacher was also a bully. Tracy Gallow was mean to the girl because she had "snitched"  on the previous teacher. Tracy Gallow was caught on camera pushing the innocent girl onto the bleachers. The school district will be performing further investigation to prevent more situations like this.

I personally don't understand why someone would want to target a young girl and manipulate others to help her. I also I don't understand how she got away with it for so long. This was more than teasing and name calling, it was much more dangerous for an elementary schooler. I hope no one else has to deal with this cruel treatment. I wonder why an adult would have a reason to treat someone so young so wrong, it doesn't make sense to me. I hope the school can make things right and I hope this girl can recover from the bullying. http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/28/us/teachers-bullied-girl-trnd/index.html

Grace Biltz - Fake news

During the 2016 presidential campaign fake news became a hot topic. With social media playing a big part in everybody's lives, stories and news can be spread quickly. Facebook came under a lot of criticism during the campaign for not trying to combat fake news. Many believe this had an impact on the election. For example, a fake article claimed that Hilary Clinton sold weapons to ISIS. Readers can mistakenly judge the story as real and share them. Sites like Facebook can allow these stories to spread across the nation and the world.
Now Facebook is taking great efforts to prevent the distribution of fake news. They are using automated methods to screen out the fakes and then are taking efforts to shut down these accounts. Unfortunately, it is too late to effect the U.S. election, but Facebook is hoping that it will positively impact the French election. They are even taking out full-page ads with tips on how to spot fake news. We will shorty see the outcome of the race between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.

I think that it's great that Facebook is taking action in this. I also think people should really think about the things they see on social media and question whether or not it is really true.

TENNASEE TEACHER PLANED TO TAKE 15 YEARILD GIRL TO MEXICO

A  teacher was found to have plans to kidnap a student and take her to Mexico. She is assumed to be a victim of sex crimes by him, but this isn't confirmed. Talk about disgusting. Sexual assault is not something that is funny. This is fucked Up, and infuriating. Imagine getting the call that your child or sibling was sexually assaulted, or kid napped. People like this deserve life in prison and need to be helped. This is so heartbreaking and I can't read anymore.

The future is flying - Mila Fisher

Flying cars have been a part of our fictional worlds for ages. They've been dreamed of, planned out, and written into our lives, but soon, they may fly out of the pages into our reality.
Uber, the on demand car service company, is shooting for the sky. They are developing a taxi for the clouds, the Uber Elevate Network, set for a demo debut at the Word Expo in Dubai in 2020.

"Urban aviation is a natural next step for Uber," chief product officer Jeff Holden said in a statement, noting that the company's original mission was to both give people back their time while alleviating congestion and pollution. "That's why we're working to make 'Push a button, get a flight' a reality."

This is really exciting for transportation technology! Ideas like these have been around for ages, and it's really cool to think that they might become a reality.

Every Ivy League School in America -Alex Travell

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/24/health/ivy-league-schools-parents-profile/index.html

Very few students can say they have had the privilege of being accepted into all eight Ivy League schools. These schools include Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania. Martin, 18, and Kwasi, 20, were both accepted into all eight.
Although these boys have worked very hard to get where they are, their parents played a huge role. Kwasi's parents were on him like white on rice, while Martin's parents let him find his success himself. Despite the fact that their parents had very different methods, both of these boys ended up successful.

I just thought this was cool. The fact that these boys get to say they were accepted into every Ivy League school in America is amazing. They definitely deserve it, for they obvious had to bust their asses to get here.

This message involving the president, he wants it to be known that Russia is a force to be reckoned with and that they are very stable and ready to expand their limits more when it comes to their military. According to the Russians they think they're making a strategic move.
I don't really think anything is gonna happen with the Russians. They are probably just trying to prove that their military is strong and can fight anyone who comes their way for example ISIS. But I could be wrong and maybe they really are trying to start stuff.

4 year old tumbles out of bus | Mica Stout

The name of this 4 year old girl wasn't given, but she fell out of the back of the bus in the middle of the highway. Ryan Ciampoli, a trained emergency medical technician driving behind the bus, jumped out right after and helped her that Wednesday. She suffered a broken jaw and will go through surgery. The investigators are still trying to figure out whether the door was locked or not.

This breaks my heart and I hope that  she will be okay. No 4 year old deserves to go through that, actually no one should have to go through that. This is really dangerous and the bus driver should've made sure that everything on the bus was safe for kids.

DALLAS - Two people were found dead inside a meeting room after gunshots rang out inside a Dallas high rise Monday morning

President Trump and white house officials pressed congressional Republicans on Sunday to use the looming threat of a government shut down to win funding for the wall along the border between the United States and Mexico, a top priority for the administration as it nears its symbolic 100-day mark.

This whole wall situation reminds me of the Berlin Wall like in WW2, and it is interesting to see how history repeats itself. The Berlin Wall was eventually torn down, so that will probably happen to this wall too.

Uber tracked former users even after they deleted the app from their phones.Uber is pushing back on the allegations, saing that the tracking is a common industry practice used to prevent fraud and account compromise.Uber allegedly used a practice called fingerprinting to track devices after the app was deleted. Uber reportedly began fingerprinting iPhones as a fraud-preventing mechanism in locations like China.

This seems a bit sketchy to me, and I still don't understand why Uber needs to track users that don't even have the Uber app. It just seems unsafe and I think they need to make their users feel more safe and comfortable.

Retail Stores Closing - Lauren Rothert

It is predicted that the retail industry will suffer more closers than ever this year. The largest number of retail closures was in 2008 when 6,163 stores closed, but this year the number of retail closings have far passed that number. If stores start to close as fast as the sources are predicting, then more than 147 million square feet of retail space will be lost. In February JCPenny closed several stores, last month Staples followed suit, this week Bebe closed, and Macy's has announced they are closing around 68 locations. Online websites like Amazon have eclipsed physical store fronts leaving several malls deserted.

Personally I love going to the mall, but I have also followed the trend of ordering clothing online. It is much easier to order online rather than having to fit a mall trip into my already busy schedule. Online shopping offers many perks you don't receive in stores like free shipping, and buy one get one free deals. It is sad that so many stores are closing, but it is a sign of how the world is evolving to be a more technologically based economy.

Melanie Escalante- wildfires across Florida

In southwest Florida, a large number of wildflowers have been burning homes and vehicles of many. These fires are suspected to be caused by an arsonist because of the abnormal occurrence. Central Florida experienced a brush fire in Polk County destroying 700 acres of land and one business. Southwest Florida experienced a fire across 5,900 acres of land. In the areas where the fire burned, people were told to evacuate to assure safety. Even though there was light rain in Florida, these fires still pose a threat and firefighters are working to put a stop to them.

I would hate to have to leave the comfort of my home and I can't imagine how tragic it is to lose your home completely. Many are facing serious problems due to these fires and it sucks that there isn't a way to stop it all at once, as these things take time. I hope firefighters can find a way to prevent these fires from producing more damage and I hope they're safe in doing so. If the people going through this could just stick together, they can remain strong. Although we aren't Floridians and we can't do much, we can keep them in our prayers.http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/22/us/florida-wildfires-evacuations/index.html

Current Events: Asma Assad UK Citizenship
Bashar al-Assad’s wife, Asma Assad is UK born and has a U.K. citizenship, but British lawmakers are threatening to strip it from her if she does not stop backing her husband’s murderous regime. Asma has been using her social media platform to support his regime. Nadhim Zahawi, a member of the Conservative Ruling Party who has a dual citizenship in Syria and the U.K. said that Bashar has crossed the line poising his own people with a nerve agent gas so she needs to make up her mind on whether she wants to keep her citizenship, or support him.

If I were her I would quit using social media to support him because what he is doing is terrible, and the U.K. has been experiencing a large amount of terrorism lately so I understand why lawmakers are wanting to take away her citizenship. I can see how this is a difficult decision though because if she doesn't support him, he may try to punish her in some way. I do agree that the U.K. should take away her citizenship if she doesn't decide to stop soon.

Grace Biltz - French election

Will populism and nationalism trend continue? It all started with Brexit, when Great Britain decided to leave the European Union (EU). Then after that startling event, President Trump became president of the United States. Now, the French people have to decide whether to continue the populist and nationalist movement. Marine Le Pen is a leading candidate and an avowed nationalist who wants to take a hard stance against immigration and Islamic terrorism. Running against Le Pen is Emmanuel Macron, who is a center-left candidate. Le Pen mirrors President Trump's beliefs while Macron's most closely represents Obama's political beliefs.
The world is watching this election because its impact could be widespread. Could it mean another country leaving the European Union? And what will it mean for populism and nationalism?

I don't think that excluding immigrants solves anything. It won't prevent immigrants from coming into France and by doing this, it won't limit terrorist attacks for long. I support Macron's beliefs of unity, inclusion and peace. I also hope that the European Union doesn't fall apart due to this election because it could affect future trading and alliances.

Noah Hirsch Current Events 6/3: Taliban Strikes Afghanistan

Noah Hirsch
April 21, 2017

Today an elaborate attack on US troops in Afghanistan occurred.  Members of the Taliban dressed as troops in order to sneak onto the base and attack the soldiers from the inside.  They managed to kill and wound over 50 people.  The attack was on the army headquarters at the capital of the northern Balkh Province.  The attack took place while soldiers were gathering in the dining hall for lunch.  We have been informed that at least 5 Taliban attackers were killed during the assault.

This story makes me afraid of what terrorists are capable of.  They were able to get the clothing needed to look like US soldiers and they were able to pretend to be US soldiers well enough to sneak onto a highly guarded military base.  I don't know if I should be concerned that our bases aren't well protected enough or if terrorist are just learning how to outsmart us.

$1,000 fine for bad smells, Aeva Ramirez1

In Las Vegas, city council members are debating whether or not to pass a bill that would cause property owners to pay a $1,000 fine if their land has a bad odor. Officials would be sent to a property and use a device called a Nasal Ranger to measure the smell in a place. If the odor measures to a certain level than the land owner would either pay a fine or get rid of the scent. This all started because of a woman who owned a very large amount of cats and the smell seeped into the walls of her house. The house had to be torn down due to the awful odor that could be smelled from residence across the street.

Wow this made me laugh! At first I thought that this was just a bill being passed by some very up tight people. As I read on I totally got the why this actually might be a concern. I think that it's neighbor courtesy to try and keep your house to a smell that won't disturb the people on your block. This bill cracks me up but if it's really needed than go for it.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/17/world/north-korea-united-nations-envoy/index.html

This weekend at a UN press conference, a diplomat said North Korea has threatened war upon the United States. They have threatened war many times before, but they say this is the last one. After many verbal wars between the US and North Korea, they finally said, "It has created a dangerous situation in which thermonuclear war may break out at any moment on the peninsula and poses a serious threat to world peace and security," to help support the fact that North Korea is a ticking time bomb that can go off at any point.

This worries me even more. I knew North Korea was planning a war, but I didn't think it would happen during Trump's presidency. I believe he lacks the capability to run a country during a war, but hopefully North Korea ends up changing their minds about attacking.

Rotating Restaurant Death - Lauren Rothert

On Friday, a five year old boy died after being crushed between the wall and the floor of a rotating restaurant in Atlanta. The Sun Dial restaurant is in the 73 story cylindrical Westin Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The little boy had wandered off from his parents table, and became stuck in between 4 to 5 inches of space. A child of this age would not know what to do in a situation like this, so as the floor rotated his body was crushed. The floor automatically stopped as it is supposed to when something is stuck. The boy suffered serious head injuries and was sent to the hospital where he died of a crush injury of the head and brain.

This is so terrible. I believe that there needs to be rules and regulations regarding rotating buildings. I hope that the restaurant can come up with ways to prevent thing like this from happening again. My heart goes out to the family of the young boy.

Grace Biltz | Tax Day Protests

April 15th is typically tax day in the United States (this year it's the 18th because of the weekend), but today there are over 150 rallies and marches calling for President Trump to release his tax returns and to implement a fair tax system for all. It all began with a tweet from a law school teacher, Jennifer Taub, who tweeted "#showusyourtaxes protest." As a candidate, Trump said he would release his taxes after they were audited, but he never did. Trump is the only modern U.S. president since Richard Nixon who has not released his returns. Some polls show that 75% of Americans want Trump to release his returns. The returns would show how Trump invests his money, makes his money and how much tax he actually paid. It's a matter of transparency. All signs from President Trump indicate that he will not release his tax returns.

On June 6, 2012, President Trump tweeted: "Why is @BarackObama spending millions to try and hide his records? He is the least transparent President--ever--and he ran on transparency."
This is a false statement, however Trump is actually following this by being transparent to us and spending millions of dollars. I believe that our president should release his tax returns. People have the right to know what he is doing in office and how he spends his money.

Melanie Escalante- British woman fatally stabbed

A 25 year old British woman was stabbed to death by Jameel Tamimi when on the Jerusalem light rail line on Friday night. Although they took her to the hospital soon after the incident, it was too late as the victim had died after arrival. Thankfully a suspect was arrested on the scene (Jameel Tamimi). The Israel security agency stated that the man suffers from "mental hardship". The large amount of people touring during the Easter/Passover holiday are when people decide to attack.

This woman came on a visit and wasn't expecting anything to happen to her but due to the unexplainable reasons of others, she is now dead and at such a young age.  People come to worship and pay their respects and end up getting assaulted for it. It's ridiculous that people are so bothered by what other people worship that they feel the need to harm them. I will never be able to fully comprehend these acts of terrorism. I hope that the families of this girl and any others who were insulted, can heal and recove from such tragedies.

Discrimination in India by Victoria Valdez

India is passing a bill to make it illegal to discriminate against a person with HIV or AIDS.  There are 2 million people in India living with HIV.  India has the highest number of people living with HIV in the Asia Pacific region.  There has been discrimination in the past against people living with this condition.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/12/health/india-hiv-discrimination/index.html

It is amazing that is has taken so long to get a law passed in India to make discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS illegal.  It seems crazy that you would deny these people of education and healthcare because of a virus.  Hopefully this will help destigmatize this condition and people can live peacefully.

Flip Flops Posing Danger by Victoria Valdez

Discarded flip flops are posing a danger to oceans and marine life.  It is estimated that 90 tons of flip flops are being discarded each year and many are ending up on the East African coast.  These flip flops are not biodegrading posing a big risk to fish and turtles.  A conservation group, Ocean Sole, are recycling the flip flops into colorful sculptures and works of art.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/12/africa/flip-flops-pollution-ocean-sole/index.html

It is crazy that this is a problem.  I don't understand how flip flops are ending up in the ocean.  Aren't they thrown away into a landfill with other trash?  Thankfully there are groups like Ocean Sole that are finding creative solutions to the world's problems.

Terror attack in Turkey by Victoria Valdez

There was a deadly terrorist attack in Turkey on a police station.  Apparently, bombs had been placed in a police station through a tunnel.  Someone gained access into the building undetected.  Three people total have died.  One of the deaths was of a policeman.

Another terrorist attack on another part of the world.  It is becoming way too commonplace to hear about these attacks on a weekly basis.  I hope we never become numb to this type of violence.

United Airlines Scandal by Victoria Valdez

United Airlines removed a man by force in an effort to make room for crew members.  Apparently, the airline had offered $800-$1,000 to individuals willing to give up their seats on the airline for crew members to board.  No one wanted to give up their seat so they decided to start removing by force. The paying customer was forced off the plane by law enforcement leaving him bloodied.  United Airlines states that this will never happen again.

It is a bit ridiculous that this even happens in today's society.  Why would the airlines overbook? Apparently this is becoming commonplace.  But, it seems like it's an easy way for customers to make money.  If they give up their seat they can be paid.

Ban of Eating Dogs and Cats by Victoria Valdez

Taiwan has banned eating dog and cat meat.  Originally, it had bans on the sale of dog and cat meat but his takes it one step further to protect animals.  Also, they raised the punishment of the cruelty of animals.  You can now get two years in jail with a fine of over $60,000.

It is crazy that some countries eat dogs and cats.  I guess it's in their culture but it really turns my stomach.  Thankfully, this act is starting to be banned to protect all the precious dogs and cats in the world.

Terrorist Attack on German Bus by Victoria Valdez

There has been a terrorist attack on a German bus carrying the Borussia Dortmund soccer team. German authorities believe there is a possible link to radical Islamists.  Three explosive devices went off injuring one soccer player.  There were no casualties.

In the U.S eating dogs and cats has been illegal for years. Recently, Taiwan just banned eating cats and dogs, creating an animal protection amendment. This movement was sparked by outraged animals lovers who had to witness slaughtering of animals. Violators of this law will be named and information willshown publicly. This new law in Taiwan is expected to create a new trend all across Asia.

The White House accused Russia on Tuesday of engaging in a cover-up of the Syrian government’s role in a chemical weapons attack last week, saying that United States intelligence had confirmed that the Assad regime used sarin gas on its own people.

“What I did should have been done by the Obama administration a long time before I did it, and you would have had a much better — I think Syria would have been a lot better off right now than it has been.” That was a stark reversal from his position in 2013, when Mr. Trump implored President Barack Obama not to attack Syria, arguing there was “no upside and tremendous downside.” Senior White House officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the declassified intelligence report, said Russia’s goal was to cover up the Syrian government’s culpability for the chemical attack.

Instead, the White House asserted that Damascus and Moscow had released “false narratives” to mislead the world.

He declared in an interview with Fox News that United States involvement in Syria would be limited.

White House officials said they were eagerly awaiting action by the United Nations and the results of a fact-finding mission by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the international body charged with enforcing the global chemical weapons ban.

A four-page report drawn up by the National Security Council contains declassified United States intelligence on the attack and a rebuttal of Moscow’s claim that insurgents unleashed the gas to frame the Syrian government.

Law enforcement officials obtained the warrant after “convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia,” our colleagues wrote.

Here’s where things stand heading into Day 82 of the Trump administration: Remember Carter Page, the former adviser to President Trump’s campaign who last week admitted he was in touch with a Russian spy in 2013?

“This is the Trump era.”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer reached a new low in his performance as Trump’s chief spokesman Tuesday.

He’s back in the headlines after our colleagues revealed this: The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor Page’s communications as part of an investigation into alleged ties between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign.

Russia, in tandem with Assad’s government, has argued that routine bombing accidentally struck a cache of chemical weapons held by the Syrian opposition.

While criticizing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons at his daily briefing, Spicer when he said that even Adolf Hitler did not sink to that level during World War II.

Still, news that the FBI obtained a FISA warrant to monitor his communications is significant — it’s the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe someone from the Trump campaign was in touch with Russian agents.

“In no way was I trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust,” Spicer stated.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.

The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.
This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents.
In February, Page told “PBS NewsHour” that he was a “junior member of the [Trump] campaign’s foreign policy advisory group.” A former Trump campaign adviser said Page submitted policy memos to the campaign and several times asked to be given a meeting with Trump, though his request was never granted.
Page has not been accused of any crimes, and it is unclear whether the Justice Department might later seek charges against him or others in connection with Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
During an interview with the Washington Post editorial page staff in March 2016, Trump identified Page, who had previously been an investment banker in Moscow, as a foreign policy adviser to his campaign.
Three years before Page became an adviser to the Trump campaign, he came to the attention of FBI counterintelligence agents, who learned that Russian spy suspects had sought to use Page as a source for information.
“I have nothing to hide.” He compared surveillance of him to the eavesdropping that the FBI and Justice Department conducted against civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. [Despite early denials, growing list of Trump camp contacts with Russians haunts White House] The White House, FBI and Justice Department declined to comment.
To obtain a FISA warrant, prosecutors must show that a significant purpose of the warrant is to obtain foreign intelligence information.
The counterintelligence investigation into Russian efforts to influence U.S. elections began in July, officials have said.

United Airlines on Tuesday faced a spiraling crisis from videos showing a passenger being dragged off an airplane, as consumers threatened a boycott of the airline and lawmakers called for an investigation.

In the United States, customers showed pictures of their United loyalty or credit cards cut into pieces.
As companies push to make money from baggage fees, seat reservations and other services that were once included with a basic plane ticket, the videos added the potential for an even harsher indignity: sitting in a seat with a ticket and getting physically ejected from the airplane.
By the afternoon, after more than a day of changing statements, United’s chief executive apologized and promised a review of its policies.
“No one should ever be mistreated this way,” Oscar Munoz, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement.
Video After facing a backlash, the airline apologized for its treatment of the passenger.
But the videos had already cast an unwelcome light not just on United, but on the airline industry’s efforts to maximize profits.
And lawmakers called for an investigation.
On social media, the firestorm swept around the world.
After tumbling during the day, United’s stock ended Tuesday down 1.13 percent.

Just one day after hundreds of gravestones were found vandalized at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia, Jewish community centers in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were evacuated.
The Jewish Federation of South Jersey tweeted: “The Federation had been safely evacuated. Cherry Hill Twp police have arrived. We will update you with more information as soon as possible.”
The Federation had been safely evacuated. Cherry Hill Twp police have arrived. We will update you with more information as soon as possible.
— Jewish Fed South NJ (@JFedSNJ) February 27, 2017
Several hours later, Cherry Hill Police said the threat was unfounded.
New Castle County Police say that Siegel JCC in Wilmington, Delaware was also evacuated and police are investigating a bomb threat.
Sen. Tom Carper was meeting with Jewish community leaders when the center received the threat over the phone.
“It is heartbreaking for such a flash of fear to overtake a place of strong community and joy that brings together people of all ages under one roof – from the babies in the daycare center to the senior citizens taking part in exercise classes. These acts must end,” Carper said in a statement.

And in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, officials say students and staff were evacuated from the JCC due to a bomb threat.
“Any anti-Semitic act or act of intimidation aimed at Jewish institutions and people in Pennsylvania is truly reprehensible and we must find those responsible and hold them accountable. This is not who we are as Americans or Pennsylvanians,” said Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.
“We will not take these threats and acts lightly and I have asked the Pennsylvania State Police and Office of Homeland Security to offer their full resources towards protecting these institutions and finding those responsible.”
The Anti-Defamation League denounced the latest wave of threats targeting Jewish institutions in the region.
“These threats are vile, and even more revolting in the aftermath of yesterday’s desecration of a Jewish cemetery in northeast Philadelphia. The Jewish communities of eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware will not be cowed by hate.”
Last month, the FBI investigated threats made to Jewish centers in 17 states, including Delaware.

San Bernardino School Shooting-Current Events Victoria Gonzalez

A man in Southern California fatally shot his wife before killing himself in a school for special-needs children on April 11, 2017. Two children were injured, and one later passed away due to his critical injuries from the murder-suicide. The suspect reportedly walked in without saying anything and then shot his wife in front of the eyes of children. Parents remain distraught after such a horrifying event, and local security promises to improve their safety for the people but I am honestly so fed up with how many stories we have to hear about mass shootings. I am not sure how many more innocent people need to die before we realize that while it is not okay to rip legal guns away from all citizens it is certainly not alright to have such easy access to these lethal weapons. Especially if they show any legal records of being capable of massacres like this. While I strongly disagree with the man currently sitting in the oval office, I hope that he is capable enough to realize that what threatens our safety also remains within out borders.

Although this bleaching has happened before in the past, it has never lasted so long or been so severe. Just in the northern section of the reef, about 67% was killed off already. This doesn't only damage the reef itself, but also the species that thrive in it. Not only that, but Neil wouldn't have received enough votes at all had extreme measures not been taken. The democrats could have shut down this nomination, but the Repiblicans resorted to a "nuclear option," drastically reducing the number of votes required to approve a Supreme Court justice. Is Russia prepping for the next world war/cold war?
The U.S. Naval ships that launched the missiles at Syria last week were sailing through waters with Russian naval activity not seen since the Cold War. According to the U.S. Navy the waters around Europe have been seeing a worrying ammount of Russian activity in the past few years. "We're seeing activity that we didn't even see when it was the Soviet Union," Howard told Reuters in an interview late Saturday. After the Syrian attacks the Russian launched their own cruise middle ship into the Mediterranean saying, "The ship will operate in the region in accordance to the changing military situation," according to the state-owned news agency Sputnik. Its deployment meant there were now around six Russian warships and three or four support vessels in the Mediterranean, according to the news agency.

CPS removes kid, Aeva Ramirez6

In Ohio, Christian and Katie Maple lost custody of their 7-year-old son, Cameron, due to a twisted joke. Cameron has been described by his parent as a normal child who likes Star Wars and Legos. One day Christian and Katie were called down to his school due to what Cameron had said to the counselor after getting in trouble. He said that he had been a bad person and needed to "erase himself from this world" the counselor asked how he would do that and Cameron responded that he would stab himself in the eye. His parents later had a conversation with Cameron and he said that he wasn't actually going to hurt himself. Cameron has been tested above his grade level and finds no challenge in school and if often bored and that his chat with the counselor was a joke. Although, the the school called the CPS due to the fact that Cheistian and Katie would have their child medicated and would not disclose what was said in their conversation with Cameron. Cameron was later taken away from his family and remains in custody of the CPS.

I don't agree with the school or states actions. As children my brother and I were a bit violent. Killing spys and bad guys in our games and my brother and I were perfectly sane children. Cameron was one child of four other happy siblings. His words do call for caution but probably won't be fixed by taking him away from his family. Christian and Katie Maple weren't even informed about the CPS court hearing until the day of the meeting, that they were not prepared for. Just because parents don't wish to make family matters public or heavily medicate their children doesn't mean they don't care about them.

Battling against Leukemia by Juliet Stowe

Leukemia as a disease has taken hundreds of lives, and will provabaly continue to take many more in our future. But is a newly engineered immune cell the key to wining the battle against this disease? Scientist have created an enhanced cell, called CAR-T cells, that works to specifically attack leukemia. The latest medical trial has shown a 95% success rate to people positively responding to the CAR-T cell. Though there are still kinks to work out, relating to the amount of given bone marrow for the project, this break through is looking good for people suffering from leukemia everywhere.

This is very important because with new technology it is only natural we do whatever we can to save lives. Hundreds die everyday, and hundreds live in agony becasue of diseases we are not yet able to cure. With a break through like this, though, we can begin to finally put an end to the suffering. Many people have their doubts about using genetic engineering, but many people also had their doubts about the automobile and I can assure you no one is walking to work who doesn't have to. As a species it is our duty to advance our societies and science like this just might be th next step.

University buys student new wheelchair - Mila Fisher

Meg Moore, 20, is a sophomore at Fairfield University who has cerebral palsy. She needs a wheelchair to get around, and a device to communicate, but her wheelchair was falling apart. Held together by duct tape, she was clearly in need of a replacement, but her and her mother were having problems with insurance, which continually wouldn't go through. But her school saw what she was going through, and decided to take action. The staff and students banded together to raise money for a new $60,000 wheelchair for Meg. Many people pitched in, including the University's police department, and a few Fairfied alumni who helped negotiate the price. In the end, she received the wheelchair sooner than expected, and she can now easily get around.
This goes to show what people can accomplish when they work together to help someone out. Receiving the wheelchair was probably a huge turning point in Meg's life and education, and the fact that her school came together to help her receive it, it's a beautiful thing.

Summary
At roughly 11:40 last Friday night, tornado sirens started to sound all around the Dallas area and were not shut off until around 1:15am. With the sirens going off for about 2 hours, this led to many families panicked, worried, and scared for their life's and called 911. The person that hacked this has not been found yet.

Analysis
I think that this is a little funny, but that's probably because I'm a teenage boy. In reality it's a very serious and dangerous thing to be doing and we need to find these hackers, because they could use their hacking skills to do something much much worse. I really hope that the person(s) are caught and are punished for their crime.

Judge shot to death - Yari Collins

Chicago police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed Cook County. He was a criminal court judge. They said the gunman was a "close friend' of his. The judge walked out his house and was talking to the gun man and he pulled a gun out and shot him once.A neighbor of his heard the gun shot and went outside to investigate. The neighbor started talking to the gunman and also he was shot.

I hate hearing stuff like this because he was just doing his job. I wonder why he shot him though. maybe he was mad at him for something i don't know. Maybe will find out when they catch him.

San Bernardo school shooting | Mica Stout

A man shot and killed his wife in a school setting before he shot and killed himself on April 10, 2017. Cedric Anderson was his name, at 53 years old. He walked into the classroom and just started shooting without saying a word, and he injured two students and killed another. The reason for this was that he was trying to shoot and kill his "estranged wife".

Im not surprised that another man is shooting. If possible, my current event would be about shooting because the world needs to see how bad the world is becoming. Also how sad society has gotten because of non important reasons that lead to killing people.

Robert Seman, a suspect of three murders, committed apparent suicide while at court. He jumped off the court building, four stories. Seman was accused of killing a 10-year old girl and her grandparents in an arson fire. He jumped with an officer in front and behind him, it was that sudden. He suicide portrays that he was the murderer of the girl and her grandparents. I think that this man committed suicide so he did not have to face the consequences to his actions. I feel that this is a bad way to face your problems.

San Bernardino elementary school shooting: Teacher, 8-year-old student killed in murder-suicide

A special needs teacher and an 8-year-old boy were shot and killed in a murder-suicide at a Southern California elementary school, police said Monday.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said 53-year-old Cedric Anderson walked into North Park Elementary School and opened fire on his wife, Karen Elaine Smith, also 53, shortly before 10:30 a.m. local time before taking his own life. Two students were wounded in the shooting. One of them, identified as 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other injured student, aged 9, was in stable condition. Burguan said both students were standing behind Smith when the shooting began, but he does not believe they were targeted. The chief said Anderson had a criminal record, including weapons and domestic violence charges, but said he had no specifics.

Synthesis: This is so sad! I feel deep sorrow for this entire situation. This is such a tragedy! Changes need to be done and they need to have stricter rules on who walks into the school throughout the day. Because this situation does not need to happen ever again.

Newly Paved Texas Motor Speedway - Mila Fisher

At the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the racers were quite satisfied with the racing conditions. These reviews mainly had to do with the newly-paved and reconfigured race track. The number of accidents were less, and the driving was smoother, according to most racers.
“I think the racing was better than it could have been,” said Kevin Harvick, who started from the pole and finished fourth. “The track did a great job getting the racetrack ready. It could have been like it was all day Friday, but we were able to get that second groove coming in.”

It's cool to see conditions and safety for racing improve. I'm sure the drivers felt safer on a smoother and newer road versus an old one filled with gravel and tire rubber.

Even though he repeatedly denied having and relationship with Ms. Mason, it was revealed that he indeed had an unlawful relationship and pressured employees to say nothing of it. Chloe Dupuy: British pound falls over Scotland independence referendum fears

The British pound has fallen to a 10-month low from Scotland companies after a potentials surge for
independence. Many fear that the United Kingdom economic stability will fall. At 3 P.M, the Pound will drop to .99 cents down. Many believe that The United Kingdom will fall apart because of Scotland wanting independence. Right now 51% vote for yes and 49% vote no for Independence. We will see in 10 days if Scotland gains their independence.

I think if Scotland gains their independence, the United Kingdom might fall apart. Both for Political and economic reasons too. The question is : Can both survive without each other? Will both of them fight each other? Hopefully, Scotland's independence don't cause conflict with its neighbor, The United Kingdom.

Syria War- Yari Collins

A US air strike in response to a suspected chemical attack damaged or destroyed 20% of Syria's operational aircraft, the US has said. The US fired 59 cruise missiles at Syria's Shayrat airbase last Thursday, following the suspected chemical attack a day before. Since they took out most of their aircraft they're not really worried when they will be able to strike back

I honestly believe that Donald trump was trigger hungry.I don't think it was truly necessary to send out those missiles and 59 of them at that. Every missile that we sent off was around 1 million dollars for one. And he sent out 59??? That a lot of money. No wonder why were in debt.
