In this article a mother believed selling her own child for $7,000 was more appropriate to her elder child's happiness and comfort rather than keeping her child. She is being prosecuted after the grandmother-in-law grew suspicious of her grandaughter-in-law not being more affected by the lie that she told of her baby's death. Another (not named) family member found out of the selling of the baby and immediately told police. The baby now stays with the fathers family.
I dont believe this is right. No mother should feeling obligated to sell her child under circumstances. Her reasons to me didn't even make sense. Im sorry that the baby was neglected quickly and without second thoughts & feel that the mother deserves whatever is coming to her.

Political attacks- Makenzye Prince
Two masked gunmen terrorized the office of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical weekly magazine, in Paris. The two killed 12 people. Of the twelve the paper's top editor, Stephane Charbonnier, several cartoonists, and two police officers were killed.Five others were critically injured. The president of France says that he is in shock. The provocative magazine is known for publishing charged cartoons that satirized the Prophet Muhammad, most religions, the pope, and several world leaders.
I believed that this was planned and that the two men did this out of hate for social leaders. If the two did it for any other reason i would be shocked. This terrorist attacked seemed planned very strategically for personal reasons. I believe that all people in support of the government in any form should be more cautious now.

Mother Sells Baby for $7,000 By: Emma Wall

In the article above it states that there was a Chinese Mother that sold her newborn for $7,000, simply because she thought that the elder kids would not do well with a new sibling. It says that the seller was prosecuted after this event took place. The article also states that the baby was from a previous marriage.
Wow....this article really threw me off guard. I did not know that selling babies was a thing. That is absolutely awful! I could not believe what I was reading when the article said that she received $7,000 for selling her baby to a family. No human being should be sold. My take on this situation is that life is priceless. There is no amount of money that can create a human being, therefore I do not believe that humans should be treated as a product to be sold.

College Student held at gunpoint By. Ayanna Evans
Charles Blow is a noted Memorist and a New York Times Collumnist is furious about the cruel and unusual punishment shown to the African American race by police. He spoke out about the Michael Brown situation and is not speaking out about the current situation that took place with his son.His son that attend Yale, was allegedly held at gun point and detained by campus police because he fit the description of a criminal that they were looking for. Once Blow's son was released and once he found out about the news, He was heated. He spoke about about the situation on twitter hoping to get the attention of others to try and stop this ongoing cycle to the African American race.
I think that this will forever be a thing with the police. I honestly am scared to go anywhere where police are simply because i know that because of the color of my skin i am automatically a target. I dont't think the fist thing police should do when they see a possible suspect, is draw a gun on them, simply because of this situation where they could have pulled the trigger on the wrong person. The world needs to change because i still don't believe that African Americans are free... We are still a target.

Emma And The Beast By. Ayanna Evans
It has been confirmed that Harry Potter's Emma Watson will be playing the lead role 'Belle' in the knew upcoming 'Beauty and the Beast'. Emma revealed the news last Monday, which she seemed very excited about. The new and upcoming version will be filmed by Bill Condon, who was also the director of the last two movies of the Twilight Saga Series, and the movie 'Gods and Monsters'.The original film was created in 1991. It was the 1st animated feature to be nominated for an Oscar award in best picture. The woman/ girl that played the main lead 'Belle' was named Paige O'Hara.
I love the Harry Potter series as well as Emma's work in it. I think this will be a good experience for her to try something new in film. Her career is an amazing one, and i think that being in a classic film that everybody loves, will give her more diversity in the films' that she had done and also add more great thoughts to her brand. On July 17,2014, Eric Garner was killed by NYPD under a choke hold claiming to be a headlock. New York Police Department claims that the choke hold is prohibited and they are not to use it under any circumstances.It was said that Garner was selling individual illegal cigarettes (Loosies). After Garner said that he was not,yet police proceeded to arrest him anyway.Garner then moved his arm away and police proceeded to put him in a choke lock and began the struggle to the ground. Once the police got him face down on the ground, Garner repeated that he could not breathe as the police pushed his face into the hard cement. Once Garner was unconscious, the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital. Garner was pronounced dead after 1 hour of being at the hospital.
I think this is just another situation where the police are doing the most. I don't think they needed 5 policemen for one man who wasn't fighting them back, i think what they did was intentional. Since the addition of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution [giving women the right to vote], women have expanded in politics and leadership not only in America, but everywhere across the globe. Although there are definite improvements to equal treatment for both sexes, it is still a question among many other countries. I believe this is an important step in society because it brings us a step closer into gender equality.

Case Cockrell- Current Events

Danny Worsnop has left Asking Alexandria. Since 2008, Danny Worsnop has been the frontman for critically acclaimed heavy metal band, Asking Alexandria. He recorded three albums with them, including hits like Moving on, breathless, and death of me. He started a band in his image called "we are harlot" in 2011. This would eventually him losing interest in the metal genre, he grew tired of screamed vocals, and this eventually led to him leaving the band.
When I heard this had happened, I was sad, AA has been of my favorite bands for a long time, and I have idolized Worsnop. It's a sad day for all fans everywhere, this came as a shock, but he will always be making music, and that makes me happy.

Beginning monday, a severe snow storm is set to hit Massachusetts. The storm is said to be destructive, and snowfall with exceed two feet! The storm will rage until wednesday morning. Even then it will take over a week for the people of the area to recover from the storm. Flooding could also occur, as the snow melting could be the cause of it.
I think the people of the tristate area should brace themselves. This storm could be deadly. Cars, houses, and buildings with be shut out. People will be out of work, And kids won't be in school, it will be nearly impossible to travel. Life will get difficult for a couple weeks.

India's Tiger population increasing by Vern Blossfeld
Summary: In a rare success, the endangered tiger population has been increasing in India over the last few months. More money has been spent on tiger conservation than on any other species in the world, yet no one had been able to stop the decline of the population until now. On Tuesday, the government of India announced that its tiger census had shown a surge in the population of tigers. India is home to most of the world's wild tigers, and this is great news for tiger enthusiasts and conversationalists. Still, habitat loss and human hunting of their prey, as well as poaching, continues to be an issue for tigers around the world.
Analysis: This is a world history issue because when an animal goes extinct, it affects the whole world. Hopefully the tiger population will continue to increase with the help of conversationalists. Their efforts are important in preserving wildlife.

JACKSON SCOGGINS IS ACTUALLY ROYALTY by Jackson Scoggins
NEWS CAME OUT EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON THAT THE BOY YOU ALL KNOW AND LOVE JACKSON O'NEAL SCOGGINS IS ACTUALLY ROYALTY. You read that correctly. Jackson O'neal Scoggins is 16th cousins twice removed with the royal baby himself, Prince George of Cambridge. They share approximately 1.16378069*10^-8 (figure that out and you can probably get Lumpkins or Simon extra credit idk) % of blood. This means that if Jackson were to wipe out the millions of other people with royal blood, you would go to the same school as the King of England. Isn't that cool. You can tell colleges you know him and I promise you will get in by default.
This all relates back to the line of succession to the British throne that is followed in the United Kingdom and has since like forever. That is world history right there folks.

Taiwanese Man Dies Pwning N00bz in WOW by Jackson Scoggins
It was a normal day on January 8th,2015 in Kaohsiung. Nothing particularly interesting was happening.The local internet cafe was going on just as it had every other day. With the same man sitting in the corner playing video games like he had been for the past 72 hours. A female employee was making her rounds of the cafe when at 10 am she realized the video game man had died. The man was 32-years-old, unemployed, and an avid gamer. He had died from cardiac arrest earlier in the morning. The cameras show the man had a slight struggle in his death, but eventually he collapsed motionless. The paramedics came to take him away, and all of the other gamers didn't even realize what had happened.
When I heard this story the first thing that popped in my head was 周自齊, the president of Taiwan in 1922. After he resigned from politics, he moved to the US at the age of 52 to study film-making, a passion of his he never got to show in his past life. He moved back to China soon after and started a small studio. He died the following year. Both of these great men died doing what they loved.

Measles Outbreak in United States Linked to Lack of Vaccines by Bella Dekhtyar

The measles, an infectious disease causing fever and a red rash, has broken out and doubled since last week. 45 out of the 52 cases are in California. These are particularly linked to Disneyland, with 36 of these cases specifically sourced at the Anaheim Resort. The remaining seven are believed to have either visited the park or come in contact with those infected. One of the cases appeared in Mexico, three in Utah, two in Washington, one in Colorado, and 45 in California. The measles, if uncured, can lead to infection in the brain and possible blindness in severe cases. These cases are most common in younger children who, as doctors have found out, were not vaccinated for this particular disease as commonly as hoped. The main source of this disease is due to parents who refused to give their children the vaccination at 12 months to 4 years of age. Adults, even those who've been vaccinated, have been found to be just as susceptible to the disease within 40 years because of the wearying effects of the original vaccine. People who were in contact to those who were already infected could not have known the victim was infected with the measles. Medical professionals indicated that the trade mark rash of the disease is not seen within the first several days of the infection.
It seems ridiculous that the source of these diseases are from improper treatment from the beginning. Scientists have found that the majority of the people who were infected were not vaccinated for the disease. And I feel that this does not only relate to the measles, but also to other viral vaccines that people fail to receive. Proper education for retaining viral infections such as these to a limit is the only way to keep the infection rate to a minimum.

There is such controversy over this topic because of the issues that are occurring between the two countries. Miss Lebanon received a lot of hate because of this picture, which caused her to come out and say that she did not want to be apart of the picture and that Miss Israel just butted in to her conversation and took a selfie.
I find this very odd. I do not think that a picture should be that big of a deal. I believe that Miss Israel was just trying to be friendly and I thought it was very immature of Miss Lebanon to throw her under the bus.

While in Africa working at a charity to support education and religion, a 67 year old woman and three men were kidnapped by African rebels. They killed two (a churchman and charity worker) and kept the woman and the man for a driver. When the french government called the woman's phone, the kidnappers answered and threatened France. They only agreed to release the french hostages if France released their rebel leader, an arrested African terrorist.
It is sad that these poor people who have been working hard to support and raise money for Africa have now been taken advantage of by Africans. It will be interesting to see if the French government will agree on the negotiation and free the terrorist, which they most likely will not. Also, I doubt the rebels would follow through with the deal themselves. It is sad that this is happening to such innocent and giving people.

After nearly dying from a heart disease, a french company decided to experiment on the patient and give him a heart transplant. Now his heart is no longer an organ but a battery-operated electronic! The first brave person to test out this "toy" was 76 years old, and died within 74 days of the surgery. This man is the second patient and has now been running on batteries for 5 months. He lives a completely normal lifestyle; he even loves to take walks and bike rides.
I think it is amazing to see technology grow through the years! I would be terrified to be apart of this experiment so i think it is very selfless and brave of the family to agree to this. Now France has improved technology and many lives could be saved. It seems weird that it is run by batteries; what happens if the batteries run out? Could he live forever on his robot heart? Russian Cat 'Saves' Baby Abandoned in Entrance-Way by Savannah Boyack

A Russian homeless cat, who lived in a hallway in a cardboard box, named Masha found and took care of a baby that was abandoned in an entrance-way in the town of Obninsk in the Kaluga region. Masha "warmed the baby for several hours with her body" until Nadezhda Makhovikova, who lived in a flat on that hallway, went out after hearing the babies cries. An ambulance arrived and announced that the baby was perfectly healthy.
It's nice to some heartwarming stories like this when their are so many horrible things happening in the 'world' section of google news. Even though the fact that a baby was abandoned isn't really that great either, at least this story had a happy ending for everybody. This is the reason why I love animals!!

Obama criticized abpout parenting by Skiler Houston
Mike Huckabee accused the President and First Lady Michelle Obama of bad parenting by letting his daughters listen to the music of Beyoncé. He stated that the President and First Lady shields the two girls from somethings but lets them listen to the R&B singer. Huckabee stated "I don't understand how on one had they can be such doting parents and careful about the intake of everything............. and yet they don't see anything that might not be suitable in Beyoncé's lyrics." Obama replied "Beyoncé could not be a better role model for my girls." Huckabee also wrote a couple of books claiming he hates Washington and a few more populated places. He is thinking about running for President in 2016. Knowing the background that he has (being a pastor) he has a good enough chance to win.

After reading this article I had a pit in my stomach. It really sickens me that this happens in the same planet that I live on. I really hope that someday the world can be at complete peace. It is really disappointing to know that the possibilities of world peace are pretty much impossible. I really believe that acts like this should come to an end.

On Sunday, an oil tanker and a bus carrying 50 passengers collided, killing 30 people. The collision caused an explosion and fire to break out, causing the other victims severe burns. Officials say the bus was going in the wrong direction and occurred at a dilapidated road while making its way to Karachi in the south. Pakistan is known to have large amounts of fatal traffic accidents due to poor road construction and terrible vehicle maintenance. This accident is some what similar to the accident in November, 2014 when there was a death total of 57 because of a bus collision.
From what the article states, traffic collisions are at an all time high because of the lack of structure in city maintenance. Incidents such as these should be taken into account for to fix the roads that cause these terrible accidents. It's important for a city to have a solid structure, both politically and physically as a body. Without structure, government and safety of civilians crumble. There was a shooting in Paris, France recently. It was an unsuccessful attempt by an Islamic terrorist to free his friends that were pinned down by police in an warehouse by an airport. One man with a semi-automatic rifle started shooting up a market and taking civilians as hostages. He threatened to kill them if the authorities wouldn't let his friends go. French authorities did not negotiate with the terrorist and 17 people died as well as the gunman and his two friends.
This is why we need to have checks and balances in our army. I read in another article about a U.S. soldier who was ordered to kill an Arab civilian. This soldier has now testified and his superiors I believe were incarcerated. Stuff like this is what turns peaceful Muslims into terrorists. Imagine if you were bothered everyday by people to join their cause and then the people they are against kill your family. That is why people join these organizations and then they get wrapped into the propaganda it teaches.

Case Cockrell- Current Events- 1/11/15

A man was arrested in Washington under the suspicion on killing 3 innocent people. The police found a laptop and 5 guns in his vehicle. They have not found a motive describing the killings, but they are seeking a warrant to search the computer, as it may lead them to a conclusion. Lee had killed members of his family, his landlord, and even a congressman. He had some sort of relationship with all the victims.
This event does not shock me in the slightest bit. This is an issue that will rage on forever and there is absolutely no solution that isnt just banning the weapons. I don't know what authorites will do about this, They might have to put harsher and harsher limits on guns.
