Discrimination in India by Victoria Valdez

India is passing a bill to make it illegal to discriminate against a person with HIV or AIDS.  There are 2 million people in India living with HIV.  India has the highest number of people living with HIV in the Asia Pacific region.  There has been discrimination in the past against people living with this condition.

It is amazing that is has taken so long to get a law passed in India to make discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS illegal.  It seems crazy that you would deny these people of education and healthcare because of a virus.  Hopefully this will help destigmatize this condition and people can live peacefully.

  1. Its a virus and it's not necessarily something you can control. Finally they have made a law to help those with HIV/AIDS.

  2. This is great how India has finally passed this bill about discrimination. However, I don't think there should even be a law for this. I mean I don't think it is right to discriminate but do people really need a law to stop this? People are still going to do it matter what. Just because there is a law, doesn't mean people are going to follow it or going to change their mind. I wish people could accept others beliefs, but obviously that isn't the case.

  3. I'm glad they passed this law, AIDS is a serious condition and it shouldn't give anyone a reason to be mocked or discriminated for.
