Current Events- Fidel Castro’s Death
The former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, died Friday, and Cubans are rejoicing at the freedom that is coming their way. This man caused so much pain and suffering in their lives that the people in Little Havana in Florida gathered in the streets and they chanted, sang, danced and took videos of this historic moment. All of the people that were exiled to Florida are rejoicing, but back in Cuba mostly everyone is staying inside because you can’t really speak out in Cuba without getting in trouble.
Everyone isn’t partying about his death, but that this may mean that Cuba will be free someday. This is very exciting news to me because I have seen all the struggles that Cuban citizens have had to go through to make lives for themselves. I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in a place like Cuba where you can be harshly punished for speaking your mind, and defending your opinions. We are all so lucky to be in a safe place at a school that gives us freedom to express ourselves as artists, and as people.
