Sick Dolphins by Zoey Crummey

A study was just realeased about some of the long term of effects of the devastating oil spill that occurred in 2010. It talked about how dolphins that swam in the waters that were most affected by the oil spill have seen a huge increase in the amount of lung diseases, while dolphins in other areas not affected by the oil have not seen any increase. "For the dolphin study, scientists caught, examined and released about 30 bottlenose dolphins in Barataria Bay, La., in 2011. Moderate to severe lung diseases associated with oil contamination were prevalent among many of the dolphins, and almost half had “a guarded or worse prognosis, and 17% were considered poor or grave, indicating they weren’t expected to live,”

I think that this is so awful. The dolphins never did anything to us, yet they are suffering and dying due to human actions. Now that this information is out hopefully people will take more steps towards saving the environment and fixing past mistakes that we have made. This is just another example of how humans are destroying their only home, earth. Obviously we need to change.
