This Sunday, police officers combed through two major slums in the northern area of Rio de Janerio in Brazil. They arrested several citizens and took many firearms and weapons from people living in that area. Also, 5 possible drug dealers were murdered in another shantytown raiding this weekend. Police officers are trying their best to clean up and help get rid of the many slums throughout Rio before the city hosts the 2014 World Cup in two years. 1/5 of the people living in Rio are living in slums. The city is doing all that it can to improve this situation and make the standard of living much better for all of Rio. I think this is a great thing for the city. If this raids continue to be sucessful many felons and criminals will be arrested and crime rates will go down as well as a decrease in illegal drug activity. Hopefully these shantytown raids will prove to be effective and Rio de Janerio will become a much better city.
