Child Abuse Report by Sydney May

Sydney May, Period 8

A recent study showed that child abuse as a whole has gone down a lot, but abuse of the smallest babies has risen. According to my article, it has gone up around 11% in the past 12 years. This is horribly shocking because as many people know, abuse is very bad for brain development in small children. A lot of the cause for the rise in the baby abuse was shaking. The study of the infants showed a lot of brain/head trauma, which is known as shaken baby syndrome. This is said to be caused by parents getting fed up with their children and not knowing how to manage the crying or actions that come along with infants. It is unfortunate for the child, and mothers and fathers need to start raising and treating their children better, or else development in the lives and bodies of the children could be sacrificed. This article was written by Maggie Fox, from NBC news. This is an important article so that it will cause people everywhere to become aware of what is happening behind-the-scenes of households. This article was probably written mainly for adults, but all audiences could benefit from it's knowledge.

  1. That's so awful that someone would hit their own infant!

  2. Apparently infants are a more common target for abusers because they're an "easier victim"- they can't fight back. I really don't understand how you could harm an infant. Its awful.

    1. I agree the infants are the best target for Abusive parents, because they do feel more powerful. It is very sad.
