A woman in Michigan was charged with collecting welfare after she won $1 million in the lottery. She was found dead in a Detroit suburb; police report that she could have died of a possible drug overdose.
25 year old Amanda Clayton was asleep next to her baby when she died of an overdose of drugs.
Before her death she had won $1 million in a lottery game show. She took the cash and after taxes was left with a little over 500,000 she paid for a home and and a new car. She had 10 day to contact her support to announce the change in her income, but she made excuses not to. Eventually when the Department of Human services found out and pulled her benefits, she had collected $5,475 in food and medical benefits that would have been ineligible.
She had no obligation to deny the charges and paid them off.
