Ferry Accident On Hong Kong Waters -Hadassah Lai

On the morning of October 1, 2012, many boats and ferries were still out in the waters celebrating China's National Day. They were out late the night before celebrating and stayed in the waters till early morning. There being so many boats, the waters were crowded and it became difficult for boats to steer around other boats. One specific boat that was owned by a Hong Kong business was out with about a hundred people on the boat to watch the fireworks display. At the same time, a passenger ferry was travelling from Lamma to Hong Kong. Since it was dark outside, the two boats had not see the other and had collided. Twenty five passengers died from the two boats, and the Hong Kong Fire Department came out into the waters to rescue the survivors. They had managed to pick up 123 passengers, 17 dead at the scene. This terrible accident had terrified the passengers, "it was like I was in the movie Titanic," a survivor said. "Only this time it was actually happening to me."

  2. That is really scary! This is why I do not like getting on big boats. You never know when you're going to hit something and then drown to death. Drowning to death is one of my biggest fears!!!
