Teen Stomach Removed By Sydney May

Sydney May

A teen was on a night out with her friends that soon turned into a life-changer. While at a bar, 18-year-old Gaby Scanlon consumed a drink of liquid nitrogen. She complained of breathlessness and gastric pain before being rushed to the hospital. It ended up that they had to remove her stomach to save her life. If the doctors hadn't done this, she would have lost her life that night. Liquid nitrogen is sometimes used by people to add cool effects to foods or drinks, but too much of it could be very dangerous, as is demonstrated in this story. This article was written by Alessandra Prentice. It was a very straight forward article that was a good information source to something that was going on in the world. I believe that this article could be written for all audiences, and that it was written to both warn and inform people of liquid nitrogen's power. It's funny how the littlest things, like drinking, can truly turn one's life upside down in a split second.

  1. How will she be able to survive without a stomach? And how was she supposed to know that her drink contained nitrogen? How did she get a drink if she was only eighteen years old?
