A nurse who worked at King Edward VII's Hospital apparently committed suicide after being tricked by two DJs from Australian radio station 2dayFM. The DJs called the hospital on Tuesday impersonating Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and gained information about Catherine's condition. They also played the conversation on the air. On Friday, Jacintha Saldanha (the nurse who transferred the call through) was found dead. The chairman of the hospital said the Australian radio station's decision to broadcast the prank call was "truly appalling". The two DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian have "mutually decided" to go off the air for a while, but say that they are "very confident that we haven't done anything illegal". They also said that they thought that they would immediately be hung up on due to their "world's worst accents ever". Saldanha's family has released a statement asking for their privacy and directing all questions to the police.
Per Nyberg wrote this article for CNN on December 9th. Before reading this article I had heard about the prank call, but I hadn't heart of the nurse killing herself. This article was written to update everyone who had heard about the story. This article was written for two reasons. The first being to show everyone how far people are willing to go to get information on Catherine's pregnancy, and the second being to remind everyone of the impact pranks can have. The radio station really should have thought about the possible damage that they could cause from broadcasting the prank call.

I think that this is so sad because the lady really felt that bad that she took her own life. I think that the DJ's from the radio station should get fired from their jobs because they caused this. This is why people shouldn't play around so much because things like this can happen.
ReplyDeleteThis was definitely a really irresponsible thing for those DJs to do.
ReplyDeleteWait, why did the nurse commit suicide? Did she feel she did something wrong-Kennedi Mayes
ReplyDeleteSo why exactly did she commit suicide? I just don't understand.

I think the DJ's should be fired because what they did was just really disrespectful. Prank calling shouldn't go to so much of an extent that someone would harm themselves. The DJ's have no business in asking about Catherine's condition. It has nothing to do with them. I hope that this a lesson learned and that people learn how bad prank calling can get.
