On December 5th, a Russian news anchor was killed from a shot to the head. The journalist, Kazbek Gekkiuyev, worked for a local affiliate of a Russian state TV channel in the town of Nalchik. He has been reporting on the Islamic insurgency in Russia and "was killed most likely in retaliation for his work". It is said that the attack was to serve as a warning to other journalists who were also involved in the news coverage of the government's campaign against insurgents. President Vladimir V. Putin said the killers had "violated the victim's right to live and also the right to disseminate information".
This article is significant because it shows the problems caused by rebellion. The insurgents are going against the government and are using violence to do so. This man wasn't killed for his personal actions, but as an example and warning to others. This serves as a threat to other journalists, and the government itself. The anchorman had the right to report the news to the public; he was simply relaying information, not showing support or opposition.

This is just terrible. People should just keep their opinions to themselves, and they don't need to hurt people because they disagree on what is being said. This anchorman was just relaying information to people. He wasn't being biased at all, so I don't understand why he would get shot. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else that is just saying what they are told to say.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible! my prayers go out to his family.
ReplyDeleteAnd the "Islamic insurgency" that killed the newsman probably feel they had god on their side. One day maybe there will be no more killing for religion.
