French Family Kidnapped in Cameroon- Margaret Canady



A Youtube video has been posted showing 7 members of a family, included four children, kidnapped by Islamists in the African country of Cameroon. The family was abducted by the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram last Tuesday.

In the video, an armed man read a statement demanding the release of prisoners in Cameroon and Nigeria. One of the other kidnappers warned that France had launched a war on Islam. Behind him, one of the hostages confirmed the abduction had been by Boko Haram. French authorities are still trying to confirm the authenticity of the video.

In recent years, Boko Haram has attacked churches, government buildings and security buildings throughout Northern Nigeria. The family that includes young children has been held captive for almost a week.

Abducting a family with children is a very twisted thing to do. The children are innocent, and do not have anything to do with the conflict involving Boko Haram. I hope they are able to free the family without anyone getting injured. The government and French authorities should be aware of this Nigerian group, who have attacked before.

    This is so sad and I hope that Boko Haram gets captured and that all of this will come to a stop.
