In Nigeria, Polio is still considered an epidemic. There is large opposition to the Polio vaccination by Muslims in northern Nigeria. Some believe the vaccination causes infertility in women, a plan by the West to decrease the Muslim population. Allegedly, journalists who openly opposed the vaccination killed nine female polio vaccinators. It is unclear whether or not the journalists are guilty. They are being charged with lesser charges like conspiracy. No official court date has been set. This is tragic that in a world where in only three countries Polio is epidemic people still believe the vaccination doesn't work. I hope everything settles in Nigeria and greater protection is given to those handing out the vaccine.

The authorities are not saying the journalists killed the vaccinators. They are saying the journalists incited a disturbance and conspired by what they said against polio vaccinators.
