Nigerians Fighting Sickle-Cell Anemia by: Rachel Devine

Every year, about 150,000 Nigerian babies are born with sickle-cell anemia. It's the most common hereditary blood disorder in Africa. Recently, many women have been coming to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital to visit Dr. Bosede Afolabi, who is working to find a cure. Her mission is to cut maternal morality in Nigeria. Afolabi is conducting multiple tests to get closer to finding a cure to the disease. With so many affected people, it just makes her want to get answers quicker. It is reported that Dr. Bosede is still currently researching and working on the issue.

I thought this article was very interesting. I would love to see the disease disappear and I admire Afolabi for her perserverance. I really hope that she finds the cure, once and for all.
