Thousands of Elephants Killed from Poaching-Molly Paley

Elephants in Gabon are being targeted by poachers for their valued tusks. Quoted from bbc.com, "...more than 11,000 elephants have been killed since 2004..." Gabon is home to over half of the African Forest Elephants. Poachers are blaming in increase in desire for jewelry and other ivory products in Asia. Still, in my opinion that is no excuse for killing innocent animals. At this rate, soon enough there will not be any elephants left in Africa. Attempts by the government to hinder the poaching have been unsuccessful. The elephant population is soon to be doomed if we do not do anything.

  1. It is so sad to think all those animals getting killed just because people want to look good.

  3. Elephants are endangered, and if this keeps on happening it could wipe out beautiful animals. Also, I think the government should have stricter laws on poaching.

  4. I agree with Addie^ The government should be stricter about this as it could eventually cause an extinction of my favorite animal.

  5. This is just the way of the universe. This was going to happen anyways, but the only reason we as a people care is because it might inconvenience politicians. The next ice-age is not too far away (we only have another 40,000 years left before that comes, we are just helping the earth out so it won't feel so guilty killing of so many species).

  6. Even if the demand is higher for jewelery that doesn't mean you should go out and kill an animal for a part of its body.
