Nigeria polio vaccinators shot dead in Kano
Nigeria is one of just three countries where polio is still endemic. One of the reasons is that there are groups in Nigeria such as Boko Haram whose name translates to "Western education is forbidden." This group is responsible for the killing of nine people working as polio vaccinators in Nigeria. All were shot by men who rode up on three wheelers. Kano, Nigeria banned motorbikes from carrying passengers after a recent motorcycle attack on the emir of Kano.
In the past month, polio workers have also been targeted and killed in
Pakistan, where the Taliban have threatened anti-polio efforts -
accusing health workers of working as US spies and alleging that the
vaccine makes children sterile.
It is a shame there are groups of people whose hatred for the west is stronger than wanting to protect their kids from diseases and sickness.
This is awful. People deserve to receive the vaccinations that are available to them.
ReplyDeleteThe guy who made Gangnam Style really hates us as well... A lot...
ReplyDeleteThat's terrible! More than anything people should want to protect their children.
