Roona Begum was born in Tripura, India with a disease called hydrocephalus; her parents we're told that she had the maximum of a few months to live. Hydrocephalus is a disease is a condition, typically in young children, in which fluid accumulates in the brain causing the head to enlarge. Roona's could hardly move, her head grew three times the normal size, with a circumference of 94 centimeters. Thanks to a journalist and Natalie Krantz and Jonas Borchgrevink, more than 60,000 dollars were raised to help pay for her surgery although all they needed was $1,600. All of the money was donated to Roona and her family. The doctor, Sandeep Vaishya wasnt positive about the surgery because he had never treated a case as severe as Roona's; the surgery was particularly challenging, she nearly died. Roona's head is now down to 58 cm, after five surgeries and she maybe able to live a normal life.
I find this story amazing and inspiring. Roona was able too beat feat because of the support from random strangers. I find it amazing that people are able to help other people around the world, one of the great parts of the internet. I think there should be more awareness raised for hydrocephalus, so that more people like Roona can get money for surgery and be able to live a normal life.

It is amazing that there are people so generous to donate money for someone that they don't even know. It makes me really happy to know that here are still a lot of good people in this world!
ReplyDeleteI believe that what those people did is absolutely amazing and if more people told stories like this one to raise awareness for incurable diseases, it may become possible for those diseases to become curable!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing and inspiring that there are people who are willing to donate the money needed to help save lives, and it's partly a miracle and partly because of the help that the family received that she survived!
