Morocco Changing Rape Laws After Young Woman Commits Suicide

http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseknutsen/2013/02/04/after-girls-death-morocco-will-change-rape-laws/
Amina Filali was a 16-year old girl who was forced to marry the man who raped her, because in most Arab countries, rapists can escape jail time if they marry their victim. After her husband gave her a beating, Amina drank rat poison to escape her circumstances.
Amina's suicide led to protests concerning Moroccan laws, and the government is revising its laws and modernizing them.
I think it's sad that Amina had such a bad end, but it is good that the law is being changed so this doesn't happen again.

  3. It's completely appalling that in order to fix these bad laws someone had to loose their life. It's fantastic that these laws are being changed, but no one should have died. My heart goes out to the victim and her family.

  5. This is terrible. I can't believe that a women would have to sacrifice her own life due to someone else harming her. I didn't know that in Arab countries, a person can escape jail time if they marry their victim. That isn't fair because this women was forced to marry him. She didn't do it willingly, and now she isn't alive anymore because of the effects of her marrying someone that she didn't want to be married to. I am glad that this law is being changed, and I hope this doesn't happen again.
